Hot Video Alert: La Roux, Robyn, Whitney Houston, Taylor Switft - I Wanna Bulletproof Dancer (Mash Up)

As my final post of 2010 I've chosen this gem. I found this AMAZING video over on Popjustice and decided that I couldn't end 2010 without a little shout out. It's a mega MashUp using La Roux's spectacular "Bulletproof" as the backing track for remixed versions of Robyn's "Dancing On My Own," "You Belong With Me" by Taylor Swift and Whitney Houston's classic "I Wanna Dance With Somebody." Need I

Hot Video Alert: Ellie Goulding - Your Song (Live on The Graham Norton Show)

What a beautiful way to send off 2010. Check out this beautiful performance by my favorite, Ellie Goulding. Singing the current single from her album re-release Bright Lights, "Your Song," Goulding brings a rawness and a realness to her live performance. She might not have the vocal range of some other artists but she doesn't need range. Her voice is perfect just the way it is. Happy New Year

Hot Video Alert: Ulrik Munther - Boys Don't Cry

Ulrik Munther is a 16 year singer/songwriter hailing from Gothenburg Sweden. Like many artists today, Munther caught a HUGE break on YouTube which ultimately lead to a record deal with Universal Music. With over a million hits on YouTube before being signed, it was only a matter of time before a major label or two would be calling him on the phone. Now in the middle of recording his debut

Hot Video Alert: Sean Kingston - Party All Night (Sleep All Day)

Sean Kingston sure knows how to churn out a generic sounding party anthem. His new single, "Party All Night (Sleep All Day)" is no exception. What happened to cheesy pop songs like "Beautiful Girls," his first and to date, only #1 single? Since then Kingston has taken a decidedly club-friendly turn on recent records like "Fire Burning," and now "Party All Night (Sleep All Day)." I'm not

New Artist Worth a Listen...Kai

Kai is a new artist from our neighbors to the North and she's definitely someone to keep an eye on in 2011. "I Choose Me" (LISTEN BELOW) is the first song released off of her forthcoming EP, 11:11, due out in 2011 and it's been chosen for the January launch of a national ad campaign for First Choice Haircutters. That's a pretty big deal for a new artist! Listen to "I Choose Me" below.

Jennifer Hudson Shows Off New Body and New Song For 'Weight Watchers'

Jennifer Hudson is looking GOOD! Wow. If you haven't seen her recent string of Weight Watchers ads then you are in for a surprise. While I always thought she looked good, Hudson has really shed off the pounds (56 lbs reportedly) while still maintaining her curvy features. The newly released video for Hudson's version the of often-covered classic "Feeling Good," a song Hudson recorded

Sky Ferreira Album Delayed, EP 'hopefully' Out in February

Well this certainly is disappointing. One of my most anticipated releases of 2011 announced recently in a blog post that her debut album is being pushed back. 18-year old Sky Ferreira, who's been mentioned a few times on my blog, announced on her December 16th blog that, although the album is done, it's not coming out on 1/11/2011 as originally planned. Good news is, she hasn't been dropped by

Hot Video Alert: J. Lewis - Shut 'Em Up

Blackground/Interscope recording artist J. Lewis is a little bit Justin Timberlake, a little bit Mike Posner and a little bit Jay Sean all neatly rolled up into one attractive pop package. His new single, "Shut 'Em Up" actually came out at the end of October and at that time I did download it...I just haven't really listened to it until now. I tend to do that on 'New Music Tuesdays,' peruse

'Best of 2010': Robyn Makes Multiple Top Ten and 'Best Of' Lists

When I think about artists who've really made an impression on me over the past year, Robyn definitely stands out.  I've been a fan of Robyn's for a long time, so to see her come back here to the States 13 years after she first debuted on the scene, and make people go CRAZY all over again...it's rather gratifying.  Robyn has always had a fan base here in America, ever since she exploded onto the

Hollywood Can't Get Enough of Richard Ashcroft...What About You?

Richard Ashcroft...one of my first rock star crushes as a newly out young gay man. I distinctly remember watching the music video for The Verve's Billboard Hot 100 Top 12 hit single "Bitter Sweet Symphony" on Euro MTV during my 1997 trip to Europe with the family.  Having grown up without cable TV in the home, watching MTV and other music video channels was a rare treat, reserved only for hotels

UK Singer/Songwriter Delta Maid does the Delta Blues Justice

Don't judge a book by it's cover. If I showed you a picture of 25 year old Liverpudlian (and Geffen recording artist) Delta Maid and told you she was a Blues artist, I doubt you'd believe me. Well, think again. This young talent from the UK can sing the blues for days, and man does she do it well. A self taught guitarist, Delta became strongly influenced by American roots album from a young

Ones to Watch in 2011...Clare Maguire

Sometimes a voice comes along, so mesmerizing, so unique, so hauntingly beautiful, that you can't help but stop all that you're doing and listen. The last voice that captured me like that was Katie Melua. When I first heard "The Closest Thing To Crazy" back in 2003, there was something in her vocals that hooked me and made me an instant fan. While Melua's voice will always have a special

Kimberly Caldwell Releases New Single, Debut Album Set for Spring 2011 Release

One year after the release of her debut single, "Mess Of You," Kimberly Caldwell returns with a follow up "Desperate Girls and Stupid Boys." While the year-long span of time between singles, coupled with the fact that "Mess Of You" barely registered a blip on any chart, does not bode for Caldwell, I choose to remain optimistic. She's got some pipes on her. That deep, honey coated voice that I

G. Love Still Special w/out 'The Sauce,' Releases New Solo Project in February

I have some very fond college memories surrounding G. Love (AKA Garrett Dutton) & Special Sauce. Back in 1999 when I embarked on my college adventure at Indiana University, my roommate Christian introduced to me to Mr. Love - in particular 2 songs: "Rodeo Clowns," and "Dreamin'" - both off of the band's 1999 album, Philadelphonic. There was something about the laidback, chill vocal style of Mr

Hot Remix Alert: V.V. Brown - Crying Blood (Rieces Pieces Remix)

Ever Since UK singer/songwriter V.V. Brown went into creative hibernation, working on her forthcoming sophomore record, I've been having MAJOR V.V. Brown withdrawl. While news that Brown's "Shark In The Water" made Spinner's 'Best Songs of 2010' list, it was little consolation.  Enter Rieces Pieces to help bring me around. Rieces Pieces is a Tampa, Florida-based pop music producer who recently

Ones to Watch in 2011...The Scarletz

"Quirky pop with an Apple on top!" Yep. That just about describes new UK pop group The Scarletz. The Scarletz are 4 lovely ladies from London - Bryony Jobes, Claire-Martyne Newman, Katiya Borlante and Tahnee Lee - and together they make music. I am LOVING these girls so far. I've actually been loving them even before I heard anything from them. You see...they all started following me on

Hot Video Alert: SoundGirl - I'm The Fool

Sassy Sassy Sassy! I am LOVING SoundGirl, a new UK girl group from West London. Debut single "I'm The Fool" is the perfect introduction for these lovely ladies, all of who started out as a friends before jumping into the studio to make some musical magic. SoundGirl are Little Nikki, Izzy B and Olivia and together they make some of the sweetest electro-soul music I've ever heard. One part

Introducing Bobby Long...

Shaggy hair? Check. Hipster sex appeal? Check. British accent? Check. Smooth, soulful voice and mad guitar playing skills? Check Check. Let me introduce you to Bobby Long, an up and coming British singer/songwriter who's debut album, A Winter Tale, will be released on February 1st on ATO Records. Produced by Grammy-winner Liam Watson (White Stripes), A Winter Tale features material written by

Hot Video Alert: Sam Sparro - Pink Cloud

Sam Sparro's self titled debut album was one of my favorite releases back in 2008 and his canceling his appearance in Boston because of Visa issues was one of my biggest disappointments. His single "Black and Gold," while not a mainstream chart success story in the States, did manage to hit #12 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart when it was released here back in June of 2008. Since

Hot Video Alert: Jesse McCartney - Shake

Oh Jesse McCartney. You don't look a day over the age of 13. What is your secret? I know I'm a bit late with this one but that's OK. The more I hear McCartney's new song, "Shake," the more I like it. McCartney released the single on September 21st without much fanfare surrounding it. Pity. "Shake" only managed to peak at #54 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The song fared better on the

Hot Video Alert: Kylie Minogue - Santa Baby

Merry Christmas one and all. Just wanted to share this super cheesy Christmas video from my favorite Aussie Pop Queen Kylie Minogue. Channeling Marilyn Monroe in her rendition of "Santa Baby," Kylie is all dolled up, playfully flirting with the camera while sitting in front of a Christmas tree. Kylie looks like a total pin up girl her straight out of the 1950s: bright red lips, curls...she

Hot Video Alert: Kerli - Army Of Love

Estonian pop princess Kerli is BACK with a new single called "Army Of Love" and it's quite lovely. Produced by Free School, the single is being offered as a FREE DOWNLOAD (HERE) so go ahead and grab it when you get a chance. Kerli is currently at work on her sophomore album, the follow up to her 2008 disc Love Is Dead released via Island Records. Love Is Dead went #1 in her native Estonia and

Hot Video Alert: Enrique Iglesias feat. Ludacris & DJ Frank E - Tonight (I'm Loving You)

I love that the email with the link to the new Enrique Iglesias video came with this warning:
The new NSFW version by Enrique Iglesias feat. Ludacris "Tonight..." is now online on the VEVO platform. If you have not heard the buzz around this video, please make sure you are in a safe place before watching - very NSFW!"NSFW" indeed! Oopsie! I definitely sent it around the office today. Oh well.

Hot Video Alert: Taio Cruz feat. Kylie Minogue & Travie McCoy - Higher

I hate when record labels do this, release two versions of the same song for different geographic regions, as they are doing now with the new Taio Cruz single, "Higher." I understand WHY they do it I just hate that they have to do it.  Kylie Minogue is an international singing sensation yet CLEARLY not a big enough draw here in America to be included in the U.S. release of Cruz' 5th single off

Hot Video Alert: Crystal Bowersox - Farmer's Daughter

THIS is why Crystal Bowersox got my votes during her season of American Idol. Watch the video for Bowersox's first single, "Farmer's Daughter" and tell me you don't think she's talented. While I initially didn't see the appeal whatsoever in Season 9 winner Lee Dewyze, I've since admitted that those feelings were premature. That being said, I still maintain that Crystal Bowersox should have

Hot Video Alert: Elizabeth & The Catapult - You and Me

From the looks of things, I should have known about Brooklyn-based pop/rock trio Elizabeth & The Catapult YEARS ago, considering the band formed in 2004. Where the eff have I been?!  I've definitely seen the name "Elizabeth & The Catapult" floating around my musical periphery but I guess I've never stopped to look (or listen).  Typically, when going through my press releases and emails I flag

Ray LaMontagne featured on 'Live From The Artists Den', Releases New Live EP

I don't know about you but EVERY TIME I hear Ray LaMontagne sing a note live, I just get shivers down my spine.  Shivers and goosebumps. WOW.  I've seen Ray perform live a number of times now (mostly recently co-headlining with David Gray) and each time is it's own experience.  Sure, he sings some of the same songs over and over again but each time he tweaks it different, whether it's the

Hot Video Alert: Scissor Sisters - Invisible Light (Un-Censored Version)

WARNING: This video may be considered offensive to some. Check out the EDITED version at the end of the post!
Those Scissor Sisters sure are pushing the envelope with this video. "Invisible Light," the third single to be lifted off the band's third studio album Night Work features a myriad of uncomfortable, unsettling themes including (but not limited to) kidnapping, rape, and crucifixion.

Hot Video Alert: Coldplay - Christmas Lights

The video for Coldplay's new holiday single, "Christmas Lights" is magical. Filmed in London, this video actually has me all revved up for a new Coldplay album. I can't believe it's been since 2008 that we've had a new Coldplay record! "Christmas Lights" was released on December 1st via Capitol/Parlophone. The song was written and produced by Coldplay (with Rik Simpson and Brian Eno

Hot Video Alert: Katharine McPhee - It's Not Christmas Without You

Looks like Katharine McPhee's move over to Verve back in 2009 was the right move for the American Idol runner up, who released her first holiday album, Christmas Is The Time To Say I Love You, on October 12th. McPhee, who made her Verve debut with her sophomore album Unbroken in January has yet to find success on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (her debut American Idol single, "Somewhere Over The

Hot Video Alert: Natalia Kills - Activate My Heart + New U.S. Tour with Robyn

Well this is a pleasant surprise, isn't it? I wasn't expecting a new video from Natalia Kills until the next single! This makes me OH so happy. You know what also makes me happy? Natalia Kills is coming to Boston, opening up for Robyn at the House of Blues! I might get to see her live! AH-MAZING!  Now I've already seen Robyn live TWICE before but the chance to see Natalia Kills live doing her

Hot Video Alert: Mariah Carey - Auld Lang Syne (The New Year's Anthem)

"Does anybody really know the words?" Mariah Carey asks in the middle of her New Years Eve dance anthem, "Auld Lang Syne (The New Years Anthem)." Oh Mariah. What happened? Before I discuss the song let's first talk about the cheapo video that we're presented with.  I don't understand what happened?  Did she break the bank with the "Oh Santa!" video?  I don't remember that one being too

Hot Video Alert: Mohombi feat. Akon - Dirty Situation

Singer/songwriter and RedOne protege Mohombi is back with his third single, "Dirty Situation," featuring Akon on guest duties. Anyone getting a sense of deja vu here? It all sounds very "Taio Cruz" to me here, not that it's a bad thing. Taio Cruz knows a little bit about hits, considering he's successfully crossed over from the UK with #1 and #2 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 ("Break Your

Hot Video Alert: Greyson Chance - Waiting Outside The Lines

Greyson Chance should just get used to the Justin Bieber comparisons right now. That's all I'm saying! While that's certainly not a bad thing, it will be important for him to maintain his own image and sense of individuality. This 13 year old singer/songwriter is definitely one to watch. His version of Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi" became an instant hit on YouTube with over 34 million hits and

Hot Video Alert: Jenefer Siân - Call You Out

You may remember when I posted about upcoming singer/songwriter Jenefer Siân while back and how she had started an online campaign to raise funds needed to shoot her new music video. Well...the end result is here! A beautiful (albeit short) video for Jenefer's new single "Call You Out" is done and ready to be seen! Directed by Alan Wain and funded by fans using a website called Kickstarter.com,

Hot Video Alert: Kandi - Haven't Loved Right

For those of you who read my blog with any regularity, you know that there are certain genres that I barely touch on. Hip hop, country, rock and R&B. There are artists in each of these genres that I respect and admire and I really do respect all genres of music. Like anyone, I have my favorites. As far as R&B is concerned...I just don't care for slow jams. I just don't! I need something with a

Hot Video Alert: Frankmusik - The Fear Inside

Frankmusik (AKA Vincent Frank) is one of those artists I'm proud to say I've known about for years. Signed to visionary U.S. record label Cherrytree Records, Frankmusik just released his debut U.S. single "The Fear Inside" on December 14th on U.S. iTunes. He released it here in the states BEFORE releasing it in his native UK, which is pretty sweet. I feel like the U.S. is always the last to get

Kim Zolciak Unveils 'Google Me' Artwork

While the vague release date time period has long since passed, I and the rest of the world, eagerly await the release of Kim[berleigh] Zolciak's second single..."Google Me."  If the recording and rehearsal process seen on Bravo's hit reality series Real Housewives of Atlanta is any indication, "Google Me"  has the makings of a dance club hit.  Serving as the long awaited follow up to Kim

Hot Video Alert: Adele - Rolling In The Deep

Adele's new music video is pure perfection. It's the stunning visual complement to a near perfect song. The artfully directed video by Sam Brown features Adele front and center looking stunning in a black evening dress, hair pulled back, seated in an old chair just singing in an empty room. Less is DEFINITELY more in this video. Honestly, what more could you possibly need when you got Adele's

Hot Video Alert: Eliza Doolittle - Skinny Genes 2.0

Yes, there's already a video for "Skinny Genes," Eliza Doolittle's debut UK single, but that doesn't matter now...because NOW there's a brand new video.  Woohoo! The song was originally released in April of this year and went on to peak at #22 on the UK single chart.  The new version of "Skinny Genes," which is being re-released in the UK on December 27th (in lieu of a rumored new single?) is

Sarah Connor To Release New Single December 10th

German pop/R&B singer Sarah Connor is set to release the title track off of her seventh studio album, Real Love, on December 10th in her native Germany. I've been a massive fan of Sarah Connor for years so when I heard that she was releasing a new album I was just a little excited. "Let's Get Back To Bed Boy," "One Night Stand" and "Bounce" are just a few of my favorite Sarah Connor hits from

Lauren Pritchard Tapped as HMV's 'Next Big Thing', New Single due in February

I'm jealous of the UK. Why? Well many reasons really, but right now it's because they are hogging Lauren Pritchard all for themselves and not sharing her with America! Hello! She's American afterall. Give her back UK. Please!

The Broadway vet (Spring Awakening) released her highly acclaimed debut album, Wasted In Jackson in the UK at the end of October, where it peaked at #84. So far the album

Hot Video Alert: The Ultra Girls - Lose My Mind (Live)

I think it's safe to say that Steve Anderson is a pretty good judge of talent, after all he's worked with the legendary Ms. Kylie Minogue, #1 UK boy band Take That, Britney Spears and much much more. As far as resumes go, Steve Anderson's is pretty effing solid. That's why when I heard he was working on a new girl group called The Ultra Girls I was pretty confident that they'd be amazing...and

Introducing...Austin Hartley-Leonard

As you can tell by reading my blog, my musical taste is a bit all over the map.  I like a little bit of this and a little bit of that.  My Last FM profile reads a bit like a musical smorgasbord and I'm fine with that.  What it all boils down to is talent.  I like talented artists, no matter what genre of music they sing.  If they happened to go to my high school - even better! This is the case

'Sonically Exquisite' New Cut Copy Album Coming in February

Cut Copy is electro pop at it's best. Not convinced? Listen to their new single "Take Me Over." It's got just the right amount of retro mixed with modern electro beats. Off the bands' forthcoming third album, Zonoscope, "Take Me Over" was released on November 23rd via Modular Recordings. The new album came about "in the comedown" of the Australian trio's last release, In Ghost Colours, an

Hot Video Alert: Tina Cousins - Sex On Fire

I know this update isn't so current but I don't care. It's been in my "to-do queue" for a while now and I still love it just as much as I did when it first came out. It's UK club queen Tina Cousins' take on the Kings of Leon hit "Sex On Fire."  Sure, it's a little bit Euro Trash in parts but it's still a great dance refix of a great rock song!  The original version by U.S. rock outfit Kings of

Patrick Wolf to Release New Single on Monday, New Album Due in May

Quirky and flamboyant (not to mention mega-talented) UK singer/songwriter Patrick Wolf has always been an artist that I've respected and admired. He's never been one to keep his mouth shut, choosing instead to be blunt and honest in every way. Written and produced by the 27 year old Wolf, "Time Of My Life" is the first single taken from his forthcoming fifth studio album, due out in May. I

Britney Spears to Release 7th Studio Album in March

March 2011. Mark it in your calendar pop music fans. Britney Spears TWEETED today the news Britney fans have been waiting for since the release of  Circus (or "3" for some) back in 2008.  To thank her fans for all of the birthday wishes (Brit Brit turned 29 today) she decided to give us a little something something to show her appreciation...

Hot Video Alert: Natalia Kills - Mirrors

EPIC. CINEMATIC. CAPTIVATING. STUNNING. All words I would use to describe the new Natalia Kills video. "Mirrors," Kills' first official single off her forthcoming debut album, Perfectionist, is pure pop magic. A true visionary artist, Kills' co-directed the "Mirrors" video, exercising that coveted creative control that labels so often deny their artists. The video has equal parts GLAMOR and

Hot Video Alert: Ke$ha - We R Who We R

Oh Ke$ha. I love you dearly but I just don't hear WHERE in this song there's an anti-bullying message. I guess the title, "We R Who We R" is empowering...in a way. No matter. In the end this is just another dance party anthem from Ms. Ke$ha and I like it quite a lot.

"We R Who We R" was co-written by Ke$ha and produced by Dr. Luke, Benny Blanco and Ammo. The song debuted at #1 on the Billboard

Hot Video Alert: The Wanted - Lose My Mind

I may not have been the BIGGEST fan of The Wanted's single "Heart Vacancy" (which BTW has grown on me considerably since the first listening) but third single, "Lose My Mind" takes me back to what I loved about the boys in their first single "All Time Low." The video was filmed at the iconic Coney Island and features the boys in all their hotness, doing their thing, dancing and singing.  The

Pierre Lewis Back with Music in 2011...Gives Us Sexy Pics in the Meantime

Photo by Joseph Sinclair via Facebook
Wow. I can't believe it's been nearly three years since I last heard from UK singer/songwriter Pierre Lewis.  Back in November of 2008, Lewis released his debut single "Broken," which went on to peak at #6 on the UK club chart.  In May of the following year he quietly released a song called "Going," which I think I remember...not 100% sure...

No matter!

Hot Video Alert: Jessica Sierra - Enough

If anyone needs a comeback it's 25 year old pop singer Jessica Sierra. Sierra first came into the spotlight back in 2005 during the fourth season of American Idol where she came in tenth (Carrie Underwood ultimately went on to win). After Idol ended, Sierra signed to indie label Verge Records and released one single, "Unbroken" (check out the video HERE) as well as an EP called Deepest Secret

Hot Video Alert: Mylène Farmer - Oui mais... non

Further proof that French singer Mylène Farmer is a Goddess - the brilliantly beautiful video for her new single, "Oui mais... non." A little bit Gaga-esque in concept, the Chris Sweeney-directed video features the ever gorgeous Farmer surrounded by a whole slew of costumed dancers. Ms. Farmer even busts out some fierce dance moves herself. The video, which premiered on November 16th comes out

Hot Video Alert: Joe McElderry - Someone Wake Me Up

I have to be honest - the whole concept for the new Joe McElderry video confuses the hell out of me. What's with the movie clips if the song isn't appearing in the movie? Is this just the label being cheap? The video features clips from new movie The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader but "Someone Wake Me Up" doesn't actually appear in the film. Instead, the single's B-Side,

Hot Video Alert: Pixie Lott - Can't Make Me Over

BLAH it's another ballad, this time from Pixie Lott. "Can't Make This Over" is the second single released from her album re-release, Turn It Up Louder. The follow up to her Top 12 single "Broken Arrow," "Can't Make This Over" was co-penned by Eve Nelson and UK singer/songwriter Daniel Bedingfield. The video has Lott moving backwards through time as if she's rewinding the day after messing

Hot Video Alert: Cheryl Cole - The Flood

Despite the fact that her first album was a bit too Will.i.Am heavy, I have to say that I much prefer Cheryl Cole's 3 Words to her sophomore effort Messy Little Raindrops. At first listen, "Promise This" was just a cluster of noise (although it did grow on me) while follow up single, "The Flood" is just plain boring. The chorus is big and Cheryl's voice sounds good here but overall, the

Frankmusik Previews New Single, Records Duet with Natalia Kills

I realize that I'm a little late with this one but better late than never. One of my FAVORITE UK imports, Frankmusik, is back with a new single and album and I cannot effing wait! The 25-year old Vincent Frank's (AKA Frankmusik) last record, Complete Me is one of my favorite albums of the last few years. Frankmusik is one of many new talents to be nabbed by Interscope Records imprint

U.S. Version of X-Factor to Debut in Fall 2011

AHHH! Exciting news. Entertainment Weekly's Michael Slezak has posted the very first promo for the upcoming U.S. version of X-Factor, the popular UK music reality competition (SLASH American Idol's downfall) that has brought us such great artists as Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Diana Vickers, Dolly Rockers, etc. While the promo (which you can see HERE) is short and sweet, my appetite is

Hot Video Alert: Sander Kleinenberg feat. Jamie Cullum - Remember When

Talk about a match made in heaven, the new single from Dutch remixer, DJ and producer Sander Kleinenberg features the ever amazing jazz-pop singer Jamie Cullum! Absolutely brilliant. I like EVERYTHING about this song. The single was released off of Kleinenberg's latest European album, 5K on November 12th in the Netherlands and November 14th in the UK. The digital EP features remixes from

Hot Video Alert: Kylie Minogue - Better Than Today

Is "Better Than Today" my favorite song off of Kylie's Aphrodite album? No. Does that mean I don't enjoy the music video? Of course not! What's not to like? The video's got bright disco lights, pink boas, sparkly stilettos and a little Rocky Horror homage going on. The clip Kylie Minogue/William Baker co-directed clip made it's YouTube/VEVO debut on November 19th. The single, the third off of

From Baseball to...Bellevoxx?

I'm all about a pop group with an interesting story and new girl group Bellevoxx DEFINITELY has an interesting story.  The girls are the first act signed to W2W Records, a Las Vegas-based label created Chicago White Sox MVP Frank Thomas. Hold up...a former baseball player started a record label? OK. I'm intrigued.   Tell me more!

Bellevoxx (which means "beautiful voice") is Raquel Houghton (

Hot Video Alert: Ellie Goulding - Your Song

As far as I'm concerned Ellie Goulding could have released EVERY one of the 10 tracks off her debut album as a single (it's THAT brilliant of an album) so when I learned that she was re-releasing the album in an expanded form I was a bit disappointed. Scrapping plans to release "Lights" as the 5th single, I was HOPING for "This Love (Will Be Your Downfall)" but instead it's one of the NEW

Hot Video Alert: Charlotte Church - Logical World

GIRL! Control that vibrato! Don't get me wrong, Charlotte Church's first pop effort, 2005's underrated Tissues & Issues did it for me. Yes, the classically-trained pop star might have seemed a bit out of her element but at least she went for it. While sexy singles "Crazy Chick" and "Call My Name" cast aside any trace of her classical roots in an effort to make Church a contemporary pop star,

Hot Video Alert: Lykke Li - Get Some

Lykke Li is further proof that all things musically fabulous come out of Sweden. The new video for "Get Some" has Li looking all tribal and stuff, getting down and DIRRTY, grabbing herself and dancing around looking fierce while some eerie black and white video montage plays behind her. The atmospheric and gritty video was directed by Johan Söderberg who's done some video work for Madonna.

Hot Video Alert: Lee DeWyze - Sweet Serendipity

It's 'new music Tuesday' and what do we have? A new music video from American Idol Season 9-winner Lee DeWyze of course. The video actually premiered on VH1 yesterday but it's online today, the same day his debut album, Live It Up is released. The video is cute, featuring a snapshot in the day in the life of DeWyze and a pretty girl. The video has the girl running all around the city,

Hot Video Alert - Wynter Gordon - Dirty Talk (NEW VIDEO)

Back when I first heard that singer/songwriter Wynter Gordon was RE-SHOOTING the video for her #1 Billboard Dance Club hit, "Dirty Talk" I thought - WHY?! After seeing the new video, I get it. The NEW video is the flashy, classy video that Wynter's hit single deserved in the first place. While I do find the original fairy tale interpretation of the Armen Djerrahian-directed clip CHARMING, the

Mini Viva Fuel 'Break Up' Rumors, Move On With Solo Projects

"Oh but it's sad when a love affair dies...the decline into silence and doubt. Our passion was just too intense to survive...which means..." - Evita
*SIGH* Words cannot express how BUMMED I am about the RUMORED breakup of UK pop group Mini Viva, although the chorus from "Goodbye and Thank You" did a pretty good job. I'm devastated! While there's been no official announcement as of yet, if you

Hot Video Alert: Erika Jayne - One Hot Pleasure

Sometimes a song just GRABS you by the balls and pulls you out onto the dancefloor. That song for me right now is Erika Jayne's "One Hot Pleasure." One part Ke$ha with a little dash of Kylie Minogue, "One Hot Pleasure" further solidifies Jayne's position as American's new queen of the dance club.

Prior to watching the Mikey Minden/Mike Ruiz directed video, I had only heard of a tiny SNIPPET

Hot Video Alert: Natasha Bedingfield - Strip Me

I love me some Natasha Bedingfield. With the release of her new Ryan Tedder writen/produced single "Strip Me," I found myself reflecting back to 2004. From the first time I heard her debut UK single..."Single"...I was instantly hooked. Before 2004 the only Bedingfield I knew was her brother, singer/songwriter Daniel Bedingfield, so when I learned that there was another Bedingfield on the scene

Erika Jayne Forms Pretty Mess Records, New Single Released November16th

My favorite queen of the clubs, Erika Jayne, may have been MIA since her last hit single topped the Billboard Dance charts earlier this year, but that doesn't mean she hasn't been working hard. Oh no - just the opposite! Not only does Jayne have a new single dropping in a couple weeks, (YAY!!) but the talented songstress JUST announced the formation of Pretty Mess Records, her very own record

Hot Video Alert: P!nk - Raise Your Glass

"Don't Get Fancy just get dancey," proclaims international pop superstar P!nk in her new single, and BOY do I ever. The Max Martin/Shellback-produced "Raise Your Glass" is pure, pop fantasy through and through. P!nk can do no wrong in my book (except maybe with "Feel Good Time"). Whether she's doing a raw and emotional ballad (while suspended in the air) or tearing it up at the dance club,

Adele 'excited, nervous, eager, anxious (but chuffed)' To Release Sophomore Album In January

OK. So excited about this!  The news came today that the FABULOUS Adele is coming BACK with a new album on January 24th in the UK and on February 22nd in the U.S. via XL Recordings/Columbia Records! Adele's sophomore effort called 21 is the follow up to her 2X Platinum (Gold in the U.S.) debut 19 and will be preceded by the single, "Rolling In The Deep." The single, a "dark bluesy gospel disco

Eliza Doolittle Covers Cee-Lo, Announces Release Date For U.S. Debut

Singer/songwriter Eliza Doolittle (whom I interviewed last month) has a busy Fall/Winter ahead of her. Soon after Doolittle finishes her tour with the fabulous Paloma Faith (which wraps up in London on November 8th), she's set to drop her debut U.S. album on November 23rd.  While there are no confirmed gigs in the States at this point, Doolittle DID do a private gig in Los Angeles on October

Lee DeWyze Becomes First American Idol Winner to Have Writing Credit on Debut Single

Lee DeWyze, last year's American Idol winner has grown on me a lot recently.  While I never really DIS-LIKED him per say, Crystal Bowersoxx got my votes just because I liked her voice better.  All things aside, I gotta say that I'm impressed with DeWyze's first album single, "Sweet Serendipity."  The song, which premiered on the On Air With Ryan Seacrest show in mid October, was co-written by

Hot Video Alert: Olly Murs - Thinking Of Me

Oh Olly Olly Olly. You really can do no wrong in my book. I absolutely LOVED Olly Murs' first single "Please Don't Let Me Go." It was sweet, catchy and the video was absolutely adorable. That song also gave us a good feel for the kind of sound Murs' was going for on his debut album, due out November 29th. Murs' sound is a little bit pop, a little bit R&B, a little bit retro. His voice

Hot Video Alert: Willow Smith - Whip My Hair

It should've come as NO SURPRISE when Willow Smith bust out onto the music scene with her single "Whip My Hair," that the 9 year old has talent. I mean look at her parents? Hello! Will Smith + Jada Pinkett-Smith (not to mention older brother Jaden). Of course Willow was going to be talented. It just had to be.  After appearances in I Am Legend and Kit Kittredge: An American Girl, it looked as

Israeli Singer/Songwriter Ivri Lider Nominated for EMA, Set to Release English Language Debut

Ivri Lider is someone I feel like I should already know about. The handsome Israeli singer/songwriter is one of the largest-selling pop/rock artists in his native country, selling over a quarter million records since he first splashed into the spotlight back in 1997. With a recent MTV European Music Award nomination now under his belt (he was nominated for Best Israeli Act) I have a feeling

Hot Video Alert: Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World)

Wow. Guess I missed the boat THIS one too. I did show you all the teaser for Rihanna's "Only Girl (In The World)" video earlier this month but that was it. Well here it is. It's a party in the desert (or on Mars...not sure) and not a trashy Ke$ha desert party. This is a classy desert party, complete with flowers, balloons, fireworks, swings, trampolines, weird dress-lights hanging from trees.

Katie Melua Reveals 'To Kill You With A Kiss' Artwork, Single Due November 29th

Katie Melua is BACK on track, promoting her AMAZING fourth studio album The House and releasing a third single, "To Kill You With A Kiss." Now...I'm not 100% sure what this song is. There isn't a song on the official tracklisting called "To Kill You With A Kiss."  Now, there is a Guy Chambers/Katie Melua penned track called "I'd Love To Kill You" which features the lyric "I'd love to kill you

'Burlesque' Soundtrack To Feature New Music From Cher and Christina Aguilera

I haven't been THIS excited for a film soundtrack since Glitter back in September of 2001. OK. That's DEFINITELY an exaggeration but I have to say...I'm pretty excited for this one. Hello!? Cher + Christina Aguilera on one soundtrack? AMAZINGNESS. While there doesn't appear to be any duets on the album the 10-tracks seem to give both stars a chance to shine.
On November 22nd, RCA Records is set

Hot Video Alert: Brandon Flowers - Only The Young

I had really hoped that Brandon Flowers' debut solo effort would have made more of an impact on the charts but that doesn't appear to be the case. Flowers' album had all the makings of a hit record...a sound similar to The Killers. Stuart Price serving as producer. Sounds like a pop masterpiece to me. While the album had a reasonably strong debut at #8 on the Billboard 200 chart and taking the

"Lights Out" for Cherish...Fallon and Felisha Ready for Their The Spotlight

Well, I guess I can't ever take another vacation from blogging again. Miss a day...miss a lot. I'm just now discovering this HOT dance single from Fallon and Felisha (AKA F+F), twin sisters better known when they were part of U.S. R&B group Cherish. Newly split from the group, the girls are back and badder than ever in "Lights Out," an up-tempo, real club banger of a track. The high-energy "

Hot Video Alert: Christian TV - When She Turns 18

"Who the f**k is Christian TV?" A very good question and a clever SUBJECT LINE for a press release. Of course I'm going to investigate. Now...while I may be asking this question a few months too late, there's no time like the present, right?

Christian TV (AKA Christian Berishaj) is part of a band signed by Atlantic Records, called Love Arcade. The five-member band got it's start in Michigan

Hot Video Alert: Fefe Dobson - Stuttering

It looks like we're ONE STEP closer to a new Fefe Dobson album...FINALLY! Dobson's third album...err...second album to see the light of day...Joy, will be released in Canada on November 22nd and on November 30th in the States via 21 Music, a division of Island Records. "Stuttering" is the infectious new single from the Canadian singer/songwriter who hasn't sounded THIS pop since...well...since

Hot Video Alert: Nicole Scherzinger - Poison

Poor Nicole Scherzinger hasn't yet been able to find her niche as a solo artist. Hopefully (for her sake), the new RedOne-produced single "Poison" will break that curse and earn this talented singer a spot at the top of the charts. While I'm happy that the other Dolls are free from PCD, Nicole was the front woman for a reason. She's got a POWERFUL voice...whether you love it or you hate it.

Hot Video Alert: Robyn - Indestructible

Swedish pop pixie Robyn releases the third and final part of her Body Talk trilogy on November 22nd in the states (November 29th in the UK) on Cherrytree Records. Single #1, "Indestructible" is another slice of synthpop heaven from Robyn, further proving that Robyn can indeed do no wrong. Her past two singles off of Body Talk Parts 1 and 2 have been GORGEOUS electro pop stunners (see "Dancing

Hot Video Alert: Kylie Minogue - Get Outta My Way (Live on 'The Tonight Show')

Celebrating her second consecutive #1 Billboard Club hit off of Aphrodite, "Get Outta My Way" Kylie Minogue DAZZLED American television audiences twice last week. First, with an appearance on Dancing With The Stars and finally on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. See! THIS is why I love Kylie Minogue. Unlike a lot of dance pop artists out there, the pint size pop princess can really sing. This

Hot Video Alert: Alexandra Burke - The Silence

Originally due to be released as a previous single, Alexandra Burke is finally releasing her emotional power ballad "The Silence" on November 29th in the UK. The video, shot in beautiful black & white, features a gorgeous Burke dressed in gorgeous gowns, standing in front of a wall of black tiles. As far as ballads go, this is one of the better ones in my opinion. I don't know what it is about

Hot Video Alert: Alesha Dixon - Radio

Former Mis-Teeq member Alesha Dixon is back with the second single off her forthcoming third studio album, The Entertainer, called "Radio." "Radio" is going to be released in the UK on November 28th, followed the next day by the album's release.  The single will be backed with remixes by 7th Heaven (listen HERE), True Tiger (listen HERE), Mutated Forms (listen HERE) and a new pop edit

Hot Video Alert: Katy Perry - Firework

Apparently...all it took for me to start liking Katy Perry's new single was seeing her bosoms exploding with FIREWORKS. Like some kind of X-Men with a busted super power, Katy Perry spreads "good vibes" all over the place in the form of smiles and yes...FIREWORKS. "Firework" is the third single off of Perry's sophomore album Teenage Dream and was produced by Stargate and Sandy Vee. Like

Dolly Rockers Announce U.S. Label Deal, Take New York City By Storm

I've been eagerly anticipating news from the Dolly Rockers' camp since August when the girls announced signing a U.S. record deal.  Recently, it was announced that the girls joined up with mega producer RedOne and former president of Epic Records, Charlie Walk in a new venture called with RedWalk Productions (according to the girls' Twitter profile). BRILLIANT news.

As if news could get any

The Ting Tings Smell Up a New Song and Collaboration, New Album Due in January

You have NO idea how excited I am to hear new material from Jules De Martino and Katie White...AKA The Ting Tings! Their 2008 debut album, We Started Nothing was one of my most listened to albums when it first came out here in the U.S. in June. Nearly EVERY single track on the album was singleworthy (in my book) and 6/10 were actually singles. Fancy that. New single, "Hands," which came out in

Hot Video Alert: Darin - Lovekiller

Remember a couple of months ago when I posted about Swedish pop star Darin? No? Well here's a refresher. The 23 year old singer/songwriter first rose to fame in his native country back in 2004 when he appeared on the first season of Idol - Sweden's version of American Idol.

Back in August, Darin released Lovekiller, his 5th studio album, his 4th #1 record and his first album with Universal

Hot Video Alert: Katharine McPhee - Say Goodbye

Katharine McPhee's most recent album Unbroken is most definitely one of my favorite albums recorded by a past American Idol contestant.  In fact, I think it's pretty safe to say that McPhee is one of my favorite singers to graduate from the Fox reality series. While her first album was a big, fat flop - both commercially and critically, she more than made up for those Top 40 missteps when

Girlicious Attempt to Pick Up The Pieces with New Album

From classy to trashy. I cover it all here on Music Is My King Size Bed. Being the reality TV junkie that I am, I've been following super slutty girl group Girlicious (made up of Nichole Cordova, Natalie Mejia and Chrystina Sayers) since their sordid days on that low-rated, critically panned music competition on the WB/CW... The Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious. Since 2008 they've had a

Hot Video Alert: Lauren Pritchard - Not The Drinking (Live on The Tonight Show)

One of my favorite new artists, Lauren Pritchard, took a break from her UK promotional schedule to make her U.S. television debut on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night. The 22 year old Jackson, Tennessee native sang a gritty, soulful rendition of her new single, "Not The Drinking," earning herself a raucous round of applause and cheering at the end of the performance. The Broadway

Hot Video Alert: Duffy - Well, Well, Well

Oh Duffy, Duffy, Duffy. Where have you been all of my life? Back in 2008, Duffy was just one of a rather large crop of British artists who crossed over to this side of the pond and found moderate success. NOW, her forthcoming sophomore effort is one of my most anticipated albums of the year. Due out November 29th in the UK and December 7th here in the U.S., Endlessly marks Duffy's triumphant

Hot Interview Alert: Eliza Doolittle

As UK-based singer/songwriter Eliza Doolittle prepares to release her debut self-titled album here in America early next year, she took some time out of her busy schedule to answer a few of my questions. Doolittle, who's already released 3 singles in the UK ("Skinny Genes," "Pack Up" and "Rollerblades") is ready to take the U.S. by storm in 2011 and I for one, am ready to see her "DOO" her thang

Hot Interview Alert: Natalia Kills

It's been a while but I'm back and in a big way! This past week, I had the EXTREME pleasure of speaking with singer/songwriter/producer and director Natalia Kills the day before her SECOND live show in New York. Natalia was promoting her appearance in the Pop Justice + High Rise Official CMJ Showcase Presented by TOKION Factory & Onitsuka Tiger and took some time to answer some of my

Album Artwork Round Up; Olly Murs, Pixie Lott, Cee-Lo, JLS, P!nk and Rihanna!

It's been a WHILE since I've posted a good old fashioned artwork update so I thought, WHY NOT...since there's so much good stuff out there. First up? Olly Murs. YUMMY! I'm really excited for Olly's debut album. Seeing how well his first single ("Please Don't Let Me Go") did on the UK charts, I anticipate that his album will do as well...if not #1 definitely landing a spot in the top 5. The

Natalia Kills to Join Robyn on Fall U.S. Tour, Album Due out Early Next Year

Next on my "MUST SEE" live gigs list is Natalia Kills. The British born singer/songwriter just released her official first single "Mirrors" and now is about to go on tour with Swedish pop sensation Robyn! That's a good gig, wouldn't you say? Natalia Kills will be promoting her forthcoming debut album Perfectionist on the 13 city tour that starts on November 5th in Miami Beach, FL ending

Hot Video Alert: Ed Drewett - Champagne Lemonade

Haters be damned. 22 year singer/songwriter/Professor Green collaborator Ed Drewett took to Twitter on Sunday to address his haters.

@Eddrewett: RT this. Im not going to stoop to the level of some washed up bitter industry idiots. Dont yap on about how i cant sing and how i wont last. How about you give me a chance first. After this tweet il say no more but how about you come see me perform

Hot Video Alert: The Motherload

Rather than doing a whole string of individual posts with music videos, I thought I'd kill a few birds with one stone, so to speak, and post a BUNCH of recently released music videos from some of my favorite artists...and some of my least favorite ones as well.  Here we go!

I've had my eye on Shontelle ever since "T-Shirt" was released back in 2008 off of her debut album, Shontelligence.

Sky Ferreira Unveils Debut Album Details, Releases 'Obsession' Video

Pop's next big thing, Sky Ferreira just released the video for her first official U.S. single, the Ryan Tedder-written "Obsession" and it's NOT what I expected at all. The video features 18-year old Ferreira as an obsessed fan of actor Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill). Bizarre? Random? Yes. Creative? Absolutely. The beautiful, young model-like Ferreira looks gorgeous throughout as the

Introducing...'An Introduction to Ellie Goulding'

Fresh off her MuuMuse-approved NYC debut at the Hiro Ballroom on September 30th, one of my favorite UK imports, Ellie Goulding is at the cusp of a planned U.S. domination.  OK OK. Domination might be TOO strong of a word, considering Ellie's only done two shows so far here in the states, but I have high hopes for this 23 year old English singer.  It seems as if the stars might be aligned for me

Ray LaMontagne to Co-headline with The Levon Helm Band

Ray! WHY do you gotta do me wrong! I just want to see YOU live! While seeing David Gray live was great, what's with the co-headlining gigs? Fresh off a nationwide tour with David Gray, Ray LaMontagne & The Pariah Dogs are about to embark on ANOTHER co-headlining tour, this time with the Levon Helm Band.  The tour kicks off November 2nd in Jacksonville, FL and wraps up on November 12th in Austin,

Hot Video Alert: Charlotte Church - Back To Scratch

I'm NOT a fan of the new Charlotte Church pop single, "Back To Scratch" and I don't forsee this one being a "grower" either. There's something about it that just DOESN'T work.  We all know that Church started out her career as a child opera singer and it worked out well for her...for four whole albums it worked out well for her. Then she went ahead and went pop back in 2005 with her Tissues

KT Tunstall to Tour North America, Tiger Suit out on Tuesday

I had the pleasure of seeing KT Tunstall perform a live set at Earth Fest a couple of years back in Boston. It was a short set and she was just sort of getting started here in the States. I believe at that time "Black Horse & The Cherry Tree" and "Suddenly I See" had been released in the States, giving Tunstall a launchpad of sorts over on this side of the pond...but subsequent singles never

Jamiroquai To Release 'Organic' New Album and Single This November

After hearing their new promo single "White Knuckle Ride," it's like Jamiroquai never left! Jamiroquai is one of the first bands that really peaked my interest in dance music. While I think it was "Virtual Insanity" that first grabbed my attention (and subsequently helped break Jamiroquai into the mainstream) there are SO many classics from the band's six album catalog that it's hard to choose

Hot Video Alert: Marina & The Diamonds - Shampain

"Shampain" is arguably my favorite song from Marina & The Diamonds' The Family Jewels album. The recently released Kim Gehri-directed video features Marina waking up in the gutter from a night of drinking. Following a burger wrapper, she's lead into some misty horror movie-landscape where she meets up with a troupe of drunk girls/zombie dancers. A bizarre scenario for sure, but it kind of

Hot Video Alert: Selena Gomez & The Scene - A Year Without Rain

Disney star Selena Gomez is becoming QUITE the little pop star. To date, Selena Gomez (together with her band, The Scene) have released 4 singles, the latest being "A Year Without Rain," the title track of of Gomez' sophomore album.  The song is an infectious dance/pop number complete with a nice big chorus and synth-driven beat. Appearing alongside Gomez we have the "The Scene" which is

Shayne Ward To Release Nickelback Cover in November...World Asks 'Why Nickelback?'

**This post had been flagged for COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT. I'm not sure why.  The artwork above is from Shayne Ward's official MySpace page.  The embedded video below comes from Shayne Ward's official YouTube channel. Embedding is not blocked for this video so I assume it's fair game to post on a blog.  I WAS linking to two unofficial YouTube videos not authorized by the artist. I have since

Paloma Faith Unveils 'Smoke & Mirrors' Artwork, Remixes

I had to do a QUICKIE post about Paloma Faith, as I just found the artwork for her final single lifted off Do You Want The Truth or Something Beautiful?, "Smoke & Mirrors." As if the AMAZING video wasn't enough to get excited about, we also have remixes coming from Widower, Pete Phantom and the ever amazing True Tiger. "Smoke & Mirrors" is due out October 24th. Faith has also contributed a

Hot Video Alert: The Wanted - Heart Vacancy

Nathan, Jay, Siva, Max and Tom (AKA The Wanted) are back with "Heart Vacancy," single #2 off their forthcoming debut self titled album. The follow up to the more up-tempo "All Time Low," "Heart Vacancy" calls to mind CLASSIC American boy band ballads of the late 90s/early 00s. Bands like the Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, LFO...those guys had it all. The Wanted are VERY much in that same vein

Hot Video Alert: Cheryl Cole - Promise This

Whoever thought that there'd be a "malaria anthem" as hot as this? While it's no "Insatiable," "Promise This" is a decent return-to-form for Cheryl Cole.  "Promise This" is the first single off of Cole's forthcoming sophomore album, Messy Little Raindrops and is a nice, up-tempo dance/pop track that "celebrates her victory over malaria."  While the track was actually written months ago, the

Ammended Opinion: The Saturdays feat. Flo-Rida - Higher

I should have given it a hot minute before unleashing on the new video for "Higher" by The Saturdays. I re-watched the video a few times and subsequently became hooked. I still think it sounds like manufactured, cookie-cutter imitation-RedOne-inspired dance/pop but it's effing catchy.  I can't help but dance in my seat!  Sorry Saturdays. I was too hasty.  Carry on...maybe without Flo-Rida

Hot Video Alert: Kylie Minogue - Get Outta My Way

"Get Outta My Way" is the TREMENDOUS new single by the reigning QUEEN of electro-pop, Ms. Kylie Minogue.  Due out in the UK on September 27th, the single is backed by a bangin' remix package including mixes by Paul Harris, Kris Menace, Sidney Samson, 7th Heaven, Bimbo Jones, Stuart Price and more!  The song was written by Lucas Secon, Damon Sharpe, Peter Wallevik, Daniel Davidsen and Mich

Hot Video Alert: Eliza Doolittle - Rollerblades

If you've been reading my blog with ANY sort of regularity, you're already familiar with British singer/songwriter Eliza Doolittle. I've been obsessing over her since the first time I heard her witty little ditty called "Skinny Genes." By the time she released "Pack Up," I was already head-over-heels smitten with her music. So smitten was I that I purchased the import of her self-titled

Hot Video Alert: Lauren Pritchard - Not The Drinking

Lauren Pritchard is one TALENTED young lady. At only 22 years old, this Tennessee-born singer/songwriter has been making SERIOUS waves over in the UK, where she is focusing all of her promotional efforts for the time being. While I wish she'd give her homeland some love, I've been assured via Twitter that she will in fact be back here at some point. Hey...if the UK is embracing her I'm all

Hot Video Alert: Joe McElderry - Ambitions

Way to go Joe McElderry! You exceeded my expectations with your new single "Ambitions." Any doubt has since vanished.  I am now left wanting more. "Ambitions" is actually a cover of an already brilliant song by a Norwegian band called Donkeyboy.  Joe's version is what it needed to be. It's up-tempo and it's the perfect vehicle to showcase McElderry's vocal ability, specifically his upper

The Saturdays Release Another Cookie-Cutter Pop Song

Listen to the new single, "Higher" by The Saturdays and tell me what you think.

There's no denying that The Saturdays' new single featuring American rapper Flo-Rida is catchy. I even sort of agree with a co-worker of mine who called it a "female version of "Break Your Heart" by Taio Cruz...which is the problem. The song is too generic...it's all been done before. I'm not saying I don't like it

Hot Video Alert: Owl City - To The Sky

Owl City's Adam Young is one of my rockstar crushes right now. BIG TIME. He's got total hipster sex appeal that makes me *MELT* I just can't help it. This is the video for his new single "To The Sky," which is off the soundtrack to some movie about owls called Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, based on a series of books.  The video features Young as

Hot Video Alert: QWECi - Not Afraid (Remix)

I honestly don't know too much about QWECi but I kind of want to now. Check out this video for "Not Afraid," a remix of the first Eminem single off his latest album Recovery. QWECi has a beautiful voice bringing a whole new sound to Eminem's already powerful track. I'd love to hear an official remix of Em's single with QWECi doing the chorus.  Maybe one day. The self proclaimed "citizen

Hot Video Alert: Pixie Lott - Broken Arrow

"Broken Arrow" still isn't one of my favorite Pixie Lott songs but the video definitely makes it a sit a little better with me. She looks great in this beautifully shot clip, despite the hokey choreography.  Why does a ballad need choreography anyway?   "Broken Arrow" was produced by Toby Gad and definitely sounds like it was in that cookie cutter pop ballad sort of way.  It's the first

Hot Video Alert: Sheryl Crow feat. Justin Timberlake - Sign Your Name

Sheryl Crow keeps getting sexier and sexier with age. WOW. The stunning singer/songwriter seduces the camera in this video for "Sign Your Name," the second single from her seventh studio album 100 Miles From Memphis, which peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200 Chart. The song is a cover Terence Trent D'Arby's 1987 Billboard Hot 100 top 4 hit and features Justin Timberlake on background vocals.

UK Soul Singer Duffy to Release New Single and Album in November

I've been waiting for new stuff from both Adele AND Duffy since they released their respective 2008 debut albums and while both imports have been hard at work on follow ups, it appears that Duffy is going to be the first one out of the gate.  I'm fine with this...in fact I'm excited by this!  The 6.5 million selling, BRIT and Grammy-winning Rockferry is no doubt a solid album through and through

Diana Vickers To Release 3rd Single in November

After her second single "The Boy Who Murdered Love" suffered a disappointing chart run peaking at #36, popstar Diana Vickers is BACK this November with single #3. Called "Wicked Heart," the track will appear on a planned re-release of the singer's #1 debut album Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree.  Played first on Radio 1's The 5:19 Show last Sunday, the song was co-written with Dee Adams and

Hot Video Alert: Paloma Faith - Smoke & Mirrors

After a relaxing vacation out West I'm back and ready to blog. Unfortunately I'm also still jet lagged so the majority of my blogging is going to have to happen this weekend, but I couldn't go to bed without mentioning the recently premiered video for "Smoke & Mirrors" - the fifth (sixth overall) and final single to be released off of Paloma Faith's Platinum-selling album Do You Want The

Hot Video Alert: Mark Ronson & The Business Intl - The Bike Song

New Mark Ronson video! LOVE THIS ONE. "The Bike Song" is the second official single off of Mark Ronson & The Business Intl and features a little help from Spank Rock and Kyle Falconer from Scottish band The View. The video was shot in the same vintage/retro style that first single "Bang Bang Bang" was. Nothing wrong with a little consistency, eh? The storyline is oddball and cute...a good

Hot Video Alert: Cee-Lo Green - F**k You

I was THRILLED to find out that a video came out already for Cee-Lo Green's new AMAZING single "F**k You." The best part? It's unedited! "Forget You" pales in comparison to the masterpiece of the original so hopefully a "Forget You" video isn't in the works. The "FU" video takes viewers on a journey from Cee-Lo's childhood, where he tried to win the affections of a pretty girl. As the

Hot Video Alert: Kris Allen feat. Pat Monahan - The Truth

While Adam Lambert is busy being exciting and flamboyant, Kris Allen is apparently busy being boring. What a yawn. I don't know, maybe I was just hoping for another Justin Timberlake after Allen won his season of American Idol, but I've just been left wanting more. Also...didn't "The Truth" come out as a single back in May? Why the huge delay between the single's initial release and the

Hot Video Alert: M.I.A. - XXXO

I've been largely unimpressed with M.I.A.'s recent singles but there's something I really like about "XXXO," which has yet to chart here in the U.S.  Honestly, I think the last M.I.A. song I really enjoyed listening to was 2008's Paper Planes and that was by and large because of the tremendous DFA Remix.  Admittedly, like many who watched M.I.A.'s disturbing video for "Born Free" I wasn't

Hot Video Alert: McFly - Party Girl

WOW. Those McFly boys are back with a brand new look and sound. Their new single "Party Girl" is an electro/pop SMASH unlike anything we've ever heard out of the boys before. Gone are the days when the boys used to sing about "That Girl" and the "5 Colours In Her Hair." "Party Girl" is an unexpected treat from a band that I used to disregard as another Busted-clone. Times, they are a

Hot Video Alert: Kaci Battaglia feat. Ludacris - Body Shots

Oh Kaci Battaglia. Where did things go wrong? "Body Shots" was already iffy for me. I was just waiting for the video to come out, HOPING that it would really blow me away, but it just left me wanting more and feeling dirty. Sometimes if I'm on the fence about a song, a good visual aide can really change my mind. This unfortunately is NOT the case with "Body Shots." The budget on this video

Brandon Flowers Releases 'Swallow It' as Single #2

"Crossfire," Brandon Flowers' first solo effort was solid. It had a little something for the Killers fans but was commercial enough that it SHOULD have done well on Top 40...but alas...it didn't. The single DID do decently on Alternative Radio, peaking at #6 on the Billboard Alternative chart and at #11 on the Billboard Rock chart. Let's see how the song does on UK radio, where it was

Pixie Lott Releases Debut U.S. Single, Unveils New UK Single

AHH. I know I'm a little behind with this bit of news but Pixie Lott FINALLY released a single here in America! "Boys and Girls" was originally released in the UK as Lott's second single off of her debut album, Turn It Up.  The single proceeded to go all the way to the top of the UK Singles chart turning into her second consecutive #1 UK single (after "Mama Do (Uh Oh, Uh Oh)").  I'm BEYOND

'FU' Says Cee-Lo Green

How can you NOT like Cee-Lo Green? Whether you're listening to his solo stuff or collaborative efforts with DJ Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley) or Kelis ("Lil Star") his voice is just so infectious.  "F**k You" was released August 25th via Elektra Records and INSTANTLY became a viral hit, thanks in part to a simple video featuring the song's lyrics appearing in front of a brightly colored

Hot Video Alert: Tiffany Page - You Won't

As on-top of new UK music as I like to think I am, every so often, a talented artist slips through the cracks. This unfortunately was the case with 24-year old UK singer/songwriter Tiffany Page.  Page definitely has the look of a pop star, resembling Leighton Meester with a little bit of Stacie Orrico and Gabriella Cilmi.  In other words, she's gorgeous...but can she sing?  To put it simply.

Amy MacDonald Set To Release 'Love Love' In October, Embarks on New UK Tour

Scottish singer/songwriter Amy MacDonald is been one of my favorite imports for quite some time now. Well...I guess not all that long since her debut album only came out in 2007 but still. Since 2007 at least I've been raving about Amy MacDonald.  As if I needed another Amy MacDonald song to rave about, she releases her new single "Love Love" on October 4th through Mercury Records.  Brilliant!

Norah Jones Brings Together Best of the Best for New Compilation

Norah Jones has the kind of voice that lends itself to a variety of different genres of music. From dance to hip-hop, jazz to pop Norah Jones is COMPLETELY versatile in that regard, which is why her new compilation album, ...Featuring is so perfect. Her last album, 2009's The Fall, which debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200, marked a slight change in direction for Jones. The album was a bit

The Ting Tings are 'Hands' on with New Single!

Holy Hell! The Ting Tings are FINALLY back and back with a vengeance. Their new single "Hands" doesn't come out until October but you can hear it over on NME.com. It's AMAZING. The Ting Tings' last effort, 2008's We Started Nothing DEFINITELY had an electro-rock influence, but no where NEAR as electro as this new single.  Recorded in Berlin with the rest of their forthcoming new album, Kunst,

Cool Kompetition: Make A Video for Kassidy and Win £1000!

Taking FULL advantage of the social media craze rockin' the music scene in recent years, Scottish rock outfit Kassidy has just launched a new competition to celebrate the release of the Rubbergum EP Volume 2. The competition is pretty simple. All fans have to do is make a video using the song "Panic Day" as the soundtrack. Just download the track HERE and upload your video as a response to

Get Familiar With: Zoe Scott

I LOVE what I do. While I don't get paid for blogging about music, there's definitely a pay out. The reward for me is the music itself...whether it be new stuff from an old favorite or a new discovery. Singer/Songwriter Zoe Scott is the latter. Her new single, "Hard Habit" is DEFINITELY worth a listen (or two). Check it out when it's released on August 31st.

Anoraak To Release Eclectic Debut Album This Fall

THIS is how you make a music video. Anyone can fill a club up with extras and perform on a stage lit with strobe lights and glittery disco balls. Anoraak and his video for °Above Your Head° is something different...something cool...something unique and I dig it.  From his forthcoming new album Wherever The Sun Sets, "Above Your Head" is conceptual video art at it's coolest.  Shot by acclaimed

Get Familiar With: Van Go Lion

Van Go Lion is a group that you need to familiarize yourselves with. The Portland-based electro-pop duo consists of Amy Paige on vocals and Josh Loerzel on keys.  A lot of electro-pop today is lacking in the vocal department.  All too frequently too much energy and attention is paid to the production and beats, leaving the vocalist swallowed up by the sound.  Amy Paige is NOT that sort of

Indie Band Sky Larkin Back With New Skills, New Passion, New Album

If you haven't yet heard of Sky Larkin, you better jump on that NOW. Sky Larkin is an indie band from the UK currently signed to Wichita Recordings The band includes lead vocalist/guitarist Katie Harkin, Doug Adams on bass and Nestor Matthews on drums. Their new album Kaleide featuring the single "Still Windmills" was just released digitally on August 10th, with a physical release to follow on

Hot Video Alert: Alexandra Burke feat. Laza Morgan - Start Without You

Oh Alexandra Burke. I had such high hopes for this video. What happened to your video budget on this hot mess? The choreography isn't tight...the set is basically non-existent...yikes!  The only positive I have for this is Burke looks HOT HOT HOT in her black lace leotard. Wow.  I'm still loving "Start Without You" but the video is just such a horrendous disappointment.  It's basically a

Hot Video Alert: Armin van Buuren vs. Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Not Giving Up On Love

"Not Giving Up On Love," the new single from Dutch Trance producer/DJ Armin van Buuren is out now and features a stunning video with the beautiful and talented Sophie Ellis-Bextor.  The song is from van Buuren's forthcoming fourth album Mirage, due out September 10th.  The album features a bunch of exciting collaborations from the likes of Christian Burns (BBMak), Nadia Ali, BT, Ferry Corsten

American Idol's Lee DeWyze to Release Major Label Debut This November

Looks like last year's American Idol winner Lee DeWyze will be dropping his major label debut (as of yet untitled) album on November 16th. The 19 Recordings/RCA Records recording artist is American Idol's more soft-spoken, shy, humble version of Chris Daughtry and while I was rooting for Mama Sox all season long, hearing Lee's debut is definitely something I'm looking forward to. I'm hoping

The Dolly Rockers Sign U.S. Record Deal, Begin Work on New Material

AMAZING NEWS! The Dolly Rockers are coming to America (via MuuMuse)! The Dolly Rockers have been one of my guilty pleasures ever since I first heard "Je Suis Une Dolly," their first promotional single released while signed with EMI. Now, after a couple of tweaks to the lineup AND label, the girls are ready to break America with a shiny new record deal.  Check out the video for "Je Suis Une

Hot Video Alert: Chase and Status - Let You Go

London-based electronica duo Chase and Status (Saul Milton and Will Kennard) released their new single, "Let You Go" yesterday (it's currently at #11 on the UK iTunes song chart!) and it's a HOT one.  With vocals by Mali, "Let You Go" is the first single off their as of now untitled second album.  Probably the coolest thing about this new release is the video, which you can integrate with

Marina & The Diamonds To Release 'Shampaign' as Fifth UK Single, Launch U.S. Tour Next Month

I'd heard rumblings about Marina & The Diamonds releasing a FIFTH single off The Family Jewels for some time now, in fact Greek radio station 88 FM Radio 1 has had "Shampaign" listed as a upcoming UK single for months now! Well, now it all seems official.  We have official single artwork (via The Prophet)! FINALLY! CONFIRMATION! "Shampaign" has always been one of the standouts on Marina & The

Hot Video Alert: Alesha Dixon - Drummer Boy (Live on Tonight's The Night)

Mis-Teeq's Alesha Dixon continues to impress me as promotion for her new single, "Drummer Boy" gets underway.  The single which started out as a cluttered, noisy mess of percussion and shouting has turned into pop magic before my very ears. I honestly don't know what happened.  Perhaps I've beaten myself over the head enough times?  Whatever the reason is, I now find myself shimmying and

Riding High, Mark Ronson Releases "The Bike Song" As Single No. 2

Mark Ronson's Record Collection is shaping up to be another HOT-LIKE-FIRE album for Ronson, who's last album Version still ranks up there in my Top 10 favorite albums of the last few years! First single, "Bang Bang Bang" featuring Q-Tip and MNDR peaked at #5 on the UK Singles Chart and has spent an impressive 5 weeks at the top of the NME Chart!  Co-written by Dave McCabe of The Zutons ("

Hot Video Alert: Alexandra Burke - Start Without You (Live on Alan Carr: Chatty Man)

Alexandra Burke might not be releasing her new single, "Start Without You" until September 6th but the promo has already begun.  The 2008 X-Factor winner stopped by Alan Carr: Chatty Man (via We Are Pop Slags) the other night and performed her new RedOne-produced/Laza Morgan-assisted single, complete with a troupe of sexy shirtless male dancers (ooh la la).  "Start Without You" is the follow

Darin Is a 'Lovekiller,' Releases New Swedish Album This Week

There's no hiding that Swedish pop singer Darin is one of my MANY pop crushes, but I think it's safe to say that he's secured a place in my heart with his new single "Lovekiller." Sure, the chorus basically repeats over and over and over and over but less is more as far as I'm concerned. "Lovekiller" does a good job showcasing Darin's killer vocals and when the BIGGER THAN LIFE chorus comes in

Hot Video Alert: V.V. Brown - Shark In The Water (Degrassi Version)

Well this is a pleasant surprise. One of my FAVORITE imports from across the pond, V.V. Brown released a new video for her hit single "Shark In The Water," this time as part of a promotional campaign for Degrassi, the Canadian teen drama which airing on TeenNick here in America. The video features the cast of Degrassi in character at an amusement park. V.V. Brown plays a beautiful singer.

Dan Black To Headline at NYC's Bowery Ballroom, Premieres 'Alone' Video

Yay Dan Black! This is HUGE! Dan Black will be headlining at New York City's prestigious Bowery Ballroom on September 9th, kicking off New York Fashion Week. Brilliant! Tickets are only $13 in advance ($15 at the door) so what are you waiting for? If you haven't seen Black perform live yet, you're in for a treat. Seriously. The energy and talent that this guy exudes is MASSIVE. He needs to be

Hot Video Alert: Scissor Sisters - Any Which Way

The Scissor Sisters released the video for their SECOND single a couple of weeks ago and it's a lot of fun. Lots of color...Ana Matronic looking fierce and fabulous and Jake Shears looking...scandalous wearing very little. I actually think Ana Matronic might be wearing more clothes! The single, due out in the UK on September 20th was produced by Stuart Price and written by Price, Jason Sellards

DJ Dark Intensity Turns Up The Heat on Mike Posner's Second Single

"Please Don't Go" has never been my favorite song on Mike Posner's album, the just-released 31 Minutes To Takeoff but it's decent enough. While Adam Lambert might have praised the song for it's "flawless production, great lyric, hook and beat" I still remain underwhelmed by the song...that is until I heard the Dark Intensity remix.
The Anaheim-based DJ Dark Intensity (AKA Manny Martinez) is an

Jada's 'On Fire' With New Dance/Pop Single

Prepare yourselves world. Boston-based girl group and Universal Motown recording artist Jada is back with a new single.  It's about time! I've been ITCHIN' for something HOT from Jada since they released "American Cowboy" back in April of 2009. While the girls DID release a follow up single in September of 2009, they've been basically M.I.A. since then, putting in a number of public

Country/Pop Singer Jessie James Goin' 'Back To Her Roots', Tweets Her Frustrations

Looks like I'm not the only one confused by singer/songwriter Jessie James' musical identity crisis. The country/pop sweet heart from Georgia took to her Twitter last Thursday, venting frustations about her forthcoming second album, Daughter of a Gypsy, due for release on September 28th.  The singer tweeted three messages in ALL CAPS, mentioning that "music is still coming out..."

The

Natalia Kills Is 'Fresh To Death'

Let me just say that I've been aware of Natalia Kills since she digitally released first promo single "Zombie" last December.  I know there's been a lot of internet buzz about this lady and for good reason! She's amazing!  She's got a great voice, she's GORGEOUS and her music released so far all features super-slick production no expense spared. There's something really mysterious about the

My 'Obsession' With Sky Ferreira Continues

Last week, when EMI sent me Sky Ferreira's new Ryan Tedder-produced U.S. single "Obsession," I was BEYOND excited to say the least! You've all seen my rants and raves about my OBSESSION with Ferreira's first international single, "One" so when I heard that Capitol Records was releasing a DIFFERENT song here in the States I was unhappy.  When I heard Ryan Tedder was the producer...I was furious (*

Benny Benassi, Yolanda Be Cool + DCup Remix New Alesha Dixon Single

Alesha Dixon's new single isn't out until September 5th but we already have the official tracklisting for the digital EP and SURPRISE SURPRISE we have some REMIXES!  UK fans can pre-order "Drummer Boy" now on iTunes.  The downloadable EP includes the single version + five remixes + the music video.

Tracklisting:

1. Drummer Boy
2. Drummer Boy (Yolanda Be Cool + DCup Remix)

Hot Video Alert: Kanye West - Power

I originally didn't want to post this video. Kanye West bothers me. He's an egotistical, pompous ass who needs to eat a BIG slice of humble pie. I'm pretty sure I felt this way LONG BEFORE he infamously stole Taylor Swift's spotlight at last year's MTV Music Video Awards...but there's no denying his talent.  He's just a talented artist with a high opinion of himself.  To be honest, the thing

British Invasion on U.S. iTunes! New Music From KT Tunstall, Eliza Doolittle, Pixie Lott, Ellie Goulding and More!

Oi Oi Oi! I KNEW I shouldn't have stopped on iTunes before going to bed. Especially on a Tuesday morning. Low and behold there were ALL sorts of British pop goodies to download.  First and foremost, the lovely and talented KT Tunstall's new U.S. single, (which I mentioned in a previous post) "Fade Like A Shadow," comes out today. If THIS is another example of "Nature Techno" then bring it on!  I

'First Listen' of Ray LaMontagne's New Album on NPR Music

Man, I really need to listen to NPR. In case you haven't heard, beginning yesterday, NPR Music is streaming the new Ray LaMontagne album, God Willin' & The Creek Don't Rise. AMAZING. I gave it a listen and fell in love with LaMontagne's voice all over again.  The album is distinctly more up-tempo than his past few records and I'd like to think that has something to do with the newly coined '

Hot Video Alert: Kim Wilde - Lights Down Low

The incomparable British club queen Kim Wilde is BACK with a vengeance on her new single "Lights Down Low" (via Pop In Stereo).  The single will be the first off her upcoming eleventh studio album, Come Out and Play, due out in Germany August 27th on EMI.  Fun, high energy dance pop is what Wilde is known for and she DELIVERS that and then some with the new single.

It's hard to believe that

Hot Video Alert: Mohombi - Bumpy Ride

Whatever your feelings are on powerhouse producer/songwriter RedOne , there's no denying his ability as a bonafied hitmaker.  Sure, there are critics who say EVERY RedOne production sounds just like the last one but I'm going to go ahead and say...I DON'T CARE. If it makes me move, it makes move and the new single from RedOne's latest protege Mohombi makes me move!

Singer/songwriter/dancer

Hot Video Alert: Sara Bareilles - Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) (Live on Billboard.com)

Sara Bareilles is great. She has a great voice. She looks like a Neutrogena model. She's also a talented singer/songwriter. The BRILLIANT "Love Song" from Bareilles' debut album Little Voice is a TERRIFIC pop song. Simple and sweet. Nothing much to it. While she hasn't had a hit as big as "Love Song" yet, Bareilles is set to release her second album, Kaleidoscope Heart on September 7th

Yannick Aellen Scares Up Some Electro-Pop

My first impression of Yannick Aellen's Dark Crooning EP...UTTER TERROR. This is one dark bit of electro pop. While not quite as frightening as Nick Cave, Aellen comes pretty close. THIS is the type of music you would expect to hear on the soundtrack of an edgy horror movie.
His Dark Crooning EP was released on August 6th and features three dark, morbid electro-pop tracks that may very well make

Hot Video Alert: Janelle Monae - Cold War

Stunning, stunning, STUNNING. A word that decribes Janelle Monae as a person and as an artist. It also PERFECTLY describes her video for "Cold War," which was just released today. Absolutely gorgeous.  The concept of the video is simple...in that there is no concept. It appears to have been shot in one take, close up on Monae's beautiful and expressive face.  Beautifully sung, this up-tempo

'Glee' Star To Release Debut Album, 'Pipe Dreams' In October

J-Squared Photography (via Facebook)
And then there were two. Two stars from TV's Glee recording debut albums, the latest being Mark Salling.  Best known for his character "Puck" on the award winning series, Salling announced the news today via Twitter, telling his followers that the album would be out this Fall. OK.  Wow.  It appears that Glee cast members are dropping solo albums faster than

Dan Black Nominated For Two '2010 MTV Video Music Awards'

A big 'CONGRATULATIONS' are in order for Mr. Dan Black, who was just nominated for TWO "2010 MTV Music Video Awards."  That's pretty huge for an artist still fairly unknown here in America.  Black was nominated in the "Best Breakthrough" and "Best SFX (Special Effects)" categories for his stunning video "Symphonies."  Congratulations sir! Well deserved!

Black's got some stiff competition in

Marsha Ambrosius, 1/2 of R&B Duo Floetry Set To Release New Single, Album

Sad! I wasn't aware that Floetry had broken up! 2005's "SupaStar" was my JAM for a while. No matter I guess, because 1/2 of the amazingly talented group is back with a smoking hot new R&B single and 1/2 of Floetry is better than no Floetry!  Marsha Ambrosius will release her debut solo single, "Hope She Cheats On You (With A Basketball Player)" on August 17th.

Briefly signed to Dr. Dre's

Up & Coming Pop Star Jenefer Siân To Release New Single, Fan-Funded Music Video

I LOVE hearing new artists on the verge of busting onto the scene and I think that Jenefer Siân just might be one of those artists.  On August 10th the Welsh-born singer is set to release her second single, "Operate" via Island Def Jam Digital Distribution across all major digital retailers (including European streaming service Spotify).  Fans will also have the opportunity to download the track

Hot Video Alert: Alesha - Drummer Boy

Oh man, oh man. I DO NOT want to like this but I'm afraid I have to agree with Popjustice here when they call the new Alesha Dixon (AKA 'Alesha') single "a bit of a grower."  The first single off of her forthcoming third studio album The Entertainer (due out in November), "Drummer Boy" will be released in the UK September 6th.  At first listen, the Shama Joseph-produced song is nothing more

Singer/Songwriter BC Jean Is Ready For Her Pop Closeup

BC Jean is someone we should be watching VERY CAREFULLY.  She's absolutely going places. This talented singer/songwriter from LA releases her debut single, "Just A Guy" September 14th on J Records followed by her debut album in early 2011. Co-written by Jean and The Matrix (Shakira, Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears) and produced by Ryan Tedder, "Just A Guy" is a feisty back-to-school, girl's

Album Review: Mike Posner - 31 Minutes To Takeoff

After listening to Mike Posner's first two singles, (the Gigamesh-produced  "Cooler Than Me" and the Benny Blanco-produced "Please Don't Go") I found it REALLY difficult to pin down what direction Posner was going to go in on his debut album.   AFTER listening to the album...I'm still not sure.  The album has got a little bit of everything.  It's a little bit pop mixed with a splash of hip-hop,

Drum & Bass Master Roni Size Remixes Lauren Pritchard

I've been gradually falling head over heals in love with the musical stylings of Lauren Pritchard since I heard her new single, "Painkillers" last month.  The single, which came out in the UK July 19th has been treated to a variety of remixed interpretations, all of them interesting and unique.  The latest remix to surface premiered late last month on Radio 1Xtra.  MistaJam premiered a new mix by

Free Download: Kirsten Price - With Or Without You, Album Due in September

Kirsten Price is DEFINITELY one to keep your eye out for.  The British singer/songwriter is about set to release her self-produced album, Brixton To Brooklyn on September 7th through indie label KPI, Inc. Lead by first single, "With Or Without You" the 9-track album is full of slick pop/rock/R&B tracks sure to get your blood pumping (much like her sexy single artwork above) and body moving.

Jamelia Inks Deal With AATW, Gets Ready To Release New Single and Video

This makes me happy. One of my favorite UK imports, Jamelia is about to bust back onto the scene for the first time in 3 years after signing a new record deal with All Around The World (N-Dubz, Cascada, September) (via The Sun).  The UK singer/songwriter signed the new deal live on UStream, in front of her management team and her two kids.  "Obviously this is really really exciting for me," she

Good Charlotte Sign To Capitol Records, New Album Due In October

Like country, rock music is a bit of a mixed bag for me.  I like some of it but not all of it.  Good Charlotte definitely fall on the "like some of it" end of the spectrum.  I'm not entirely sure why the band left their old label, Epic and signed with Capitol but I can only assume that there was a good reason.  Their last three albums landed them in the Top Ten on the Billboard 200 chart, with

Hot Video Alert: Sky Sailing - Brielle

If you think Sky Sailing sounds similar to Owl City...there's a reason for that.  There's a common denominator called Adam Young. Sky Sailing is Adam Young, just like Owl City is Adam Young.

An Airplane Carried Me To Bed is the 'debut' album from Sky Sailing and was actually written and recorded long before Owl City every came to fruition.  Released by Young's label Universal as an

Singer/Songwriter Paula Cole To Release 'Ithaca' Next Month

It's hard to believe that singer/songwriter Paula Cole hasn't had a charting single since 1999, but that's the truth.  her last charting single was 1999's "I Believe In Love" off of her album Amen. Granted, #112 isn't anything spectacular, considering "Where Have All The Cowboys Gone" hit #8 and "I Don't Want To Wait" peaked at #11 but still. Where has this talented lady been hiding?  Ok, OK.

The Script Are Hands On with 'Science & Faith' Artwork Campaign

I'm still not INSANELY loving the new single from The Script but it might be growing on me a little bit. "For The First Time" is like a decent album track, maybe not so much singleworthy. It's safe. Plain and simple. It's got a nice melody. Nothing complex or even beautiful. It's just NICE. The boys from Ireland tweeted a picture of their single artwork the other day, as they get ready to

Hot Video Alert: Alex Gardner - Feeling Fine

Why hasn't Alex Gardner taken off yet? His first single, the FABULOUS "I'm Not Mad" peaked at #44 on the UK Singles Chart and #20 in his native Scotland. Alex Gardner is fresh-faced and mega-talented. I can't help but wonder if this whole dance/pop direction just isn't working for him? As versatile as his voice may be, Jamie Cullum-style pop/rock/jazz seems to be more his strongsuit.  He's

Hot Video Alert: Sugarland - Stuck Like Glue

Country music and I have a love hate relationship.  To put it simply...I love some country music, and hate other country music. Simple.  Let's go ahead and file Sugarland in the "love" category, ESPECIALLY after having seen the video for "Stuck Like Glue." How cute is Jennifer Nettles? Even playing a crazy, insane stalker lady...Jennifer Nettles is just so much fun to watch!  The Declan

Hot Video Alert: Ke$ha - Take It Off

Unofficial Artwork/Courtesy of Coverlandia.us

While I'd still LOVE for a song like "Stephen" to be released as a single, "Take It Off" is a smart choice for Ke$ha. It should continue her string of Top Ten hits off her debut album, Animal.  While so far none of her singles have managed to see the same chart success as her debut "Tik Tok" which went #1, both "Blah Blah Blah" and "Your Love Is

Hot Video Alert: David Archuleta - Something 'Bout Love

I should have known this was going to happen. David Archuleta's new single, "Something 'Bout Love" is growing on me.  Leave it to a music video to take a song that I previously wasn't feeling and turn it around nearly completely.  I still maintain that "Something 'Bout Love" is pretty safe territory for the young singer but the song is definitely sweet.  The song is accompanied by an equally

Hot Video Alert: Eminem feat. Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie

Unofficial Artwork/Courtesy of Coverlandia.us

I LOVE a good music video and the new Eminem video certainly delivers.  "Love The Way You Lie" is the second official single off of Eminem's seventh studio album Recovery.  Admitedly, I haven't purchased an Eminem album since 2002's The Eminem Show but the material on Recovery MIGHT just rope me back in.

While SOME critics and die-hard fans might

V.V. Brown Performs on Letterman

Oops! Missed this news! One of my favorites, V.V. Brown stopped by the Late Show w/ David Letterman last night to perform her single, "Shark In The Water." It's nice to see Brown change up the performance a bit. Bigger band. Back up singers. Tambourine. Solid performance. Released this past February in America, "Shark In The Water" is V.V. Brown's first U.S. single.  It managed to peak at #67 on

Giveaway CLOSED: Katie Melua - The House

It's GIVEAWAY time! First things first, if you haven't checked out my review of Katie Melua's new album, The House, make sure you do so HERE.  I couldn't wait for the new album to be released stateside, so I snatched mine up right when it came out in Europe and have been enjoying it ever since.

Hot Video Alert: Gabriella Cilmi - Defender

Well. Here is the video for Gabriella Cilmi's new ballad, "Defender." I say it again...this is a perfectly pretty ballad...nothing more. I don't blame the label for releasing "Defender" as the third single off of her second album, Ten. First single, "On A Mission" peaked at #9 on the UK singles chart, while the Xenomania-produced "Hearts Don't Lie" only managed to hit #134. Why not try a

Album Review: Katie Melua - The House

For those of you who have been reading my blog for a while, my love for UK singer/songwriter Katie Melua is well known. I've raved about hearing her sing live, I've raved about her albums, I've raved about her videos.  On the eve of the U.S. release of her latest masterpiece, The House on August 3rd I thought a proper album review might be in order.  Then I thought, 'wouldn't a CD giveaway go

Katy Perry Reveals 'Teenage Dream' Tracklisting

Robyn Unveils Body Talk Pt. 2 Artwork and Tracklisting

I know this news broke a while back but I don't care. I'm seeing Robyn on the All Hearts Tour at the House of Blues on Wednesday, with Kelis, Dan Black and Far East Movement. I can HARDLY WAIT! While seeing the setlist might ruin the surprise for some, it only makes me more excited!  This tour, while still a good few weeks in advance of Body Talk Pt 2's release on September 7th, should get me

Hot Video Alert: Robyn - Hang With Me

Robyn - Hang With Me official video from Robyn on Vimeo.

Robyn's "Hang With Me" could be classified as a song that I need on my iPod RIGHT NOW. Unfortunately, it's not due for release here in the U.S. until August 17th and in the UK September 5th. Written by Klas Ã…hlund, "Hang With Me" was actually originally recorded by Ã…hlund's ex-wife, Paola Bruna for her 2002 album Stockcity Girl. No

Hot Video Alert: Natasha Bedingfield - Touch

The music video for Natasha Bedingfield's new single "Touch" premiered on VEVO today. Directed by Rich Lee, the video makes sense of the song for me. The bit of sing-songy chanting at the beginning ("I was tryin' to cross the street when I tripped and spilled my coffee...") threw me off at first. Seeing Bedingfield do that bit live didn't sell it for either. NOW, watching the video

Hot Video Alert: Hurts - Wonderful Life

I definitely see where the Depeche Mode comparisons are coming from with Hurts and while that comparison is DEFINITELY a lot to live up to, I think the boys will rise to the challenge.  The STUNNINGLY beautiful video for their new single "Wonderful Life" premiered last week and I can't get enough. Due out in the UK on August 23rd the single was actually already released in Denmark this

Hot Video Alert: Olly Murs - Please Don't Let Me Go

Olly Murs may very well be my next pop crush. While he may have lost to Joe McElderry on the sixth series of X-Factor, he's already got the 1UP, releasing the first post-X-Factor single from his debut album, due out in September on Epic/Syco Music. Close your eyes and "Please Don't Let Me Go" could very well be another Will Young single. Open your eyes and...well...same story. Murs

Dan Black To Release New Single In August, Tours with Robyn and Kelis

Thanks to Pop In Stereo for delivering THIS bit of good news. Looks like Dan Black's NEW U.S. single will be...TAH DAH! "Alone." The song was originally released as a single in the UK back in 2008 and is now being released as Black launches his career as an international recording artist.  According to Pop In Stereo, the single will be released in mid-August with a new video by Chic & Artistic (

Hot Video Alert: Swedish House Mafia feat. Pharrell - One (Your Name)

Not much needs to be said that hasn't already been said. Check out this cool (yet violent and possibly seizure-inducing) video for the first single by Swedish House Mafia featuring Pharrell. The song is called "One (Your Name)" and it's a BANGER! Swedish House Mafia are Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello.

Sky Ferreira To Release A More 'Pop' Single For U.S. Debut

In a recent interview with Arjan (on ArjanWrites.com), Sky Ferreira talks about her first official U.S. single called "Obsession," and how it wasn't her idea to release it as a single.  Sky doesn't mask the truth here when talking about how her record label wanted something more "pop" for her American radio unveiling.  While being at the mercy of the record labels must be frustrating for a young

Katy Perry On Cloud 9 in New 'Teenage Dream' Album Artwork

How DREAMY is the JUST RELEASED cover art for Katy Perry's second album? I love it. Katy channels her inner pinup girl here, managing to strike the PERFECT balance of sexy and innocent.  The cover art was designed by well-known contemporary artist Will Cotton and unveiled Wednesday at the artist's Lower East Side Manhattan Studio (with Katy Perry present).  The artist, who often uses

Hot Video Alert: Grace Potter & The Nocturnals - Paris (Ooh La La)

Grace Potter is FIRE! Check out the latest video for new single "Paris (Ooh La La)," off of their self titled album Grace Potter & The Nocturnals. Unbelievable. I can only imagine how good these guys are live.  Grace Potter kind of reminds me of a more ROCK & ROLL version of British soul singer Duffy.  This Vermont-based band blends old fashioned rock & roll with blues, soul and R&B.

UK Singer/Songwriter Ellie Goulding Dazzles In iTunes Festival Live Set

The amazingly talented UK singer/songwriter Ellie Goulding performed a FANTASTIC set at the iTunes Festival at the Roundhouse in London earlier this month.  The performance (ALL OF IT) is now available to watch online! Definitely worth a look/listen, especially if you haven't seen footage of Goulding performing live before.

While the PESSIMIST in me fears that, as an American fan, I'll never

The Script Ready To Release New Single, Album In September

Yesterday, Irish Rockers The Script unveiled their new single "For The First Time," from their upcoming second LP entitled Science + Faith. The Single comes out in the UK on September 5th, followed by the album's release on September 13th. MAN - it's so hard to believe that their self titled album was first released in Europe in 2008! The boys JUST exploded here in the U.S., where their single

Hot Video Alert: Robyn - Dancing On My Own (Live on The Late Show with David Letterman)

How the HELL did I miss this news? Robyn on Letterman? Oh well. Someone uploaded it so THANK GOD for that. The pint-sized popstar from Sweden stopped by Letterman on July 19th and performed her Body Talk Pt. 1 single, "Dancing On My Own." I love this. I love her. I love that Robyn can take a sad song and make it happy. Sure, it's partially the pulsating synths but it's also Robyn's energy.

Brandon Flowers Unveils 'Flamingo' Album Artwork, Announces U.S. Tour

I know I'm a bit late with this update but...is it really ever too late to post about the hotness that is Mormon rocker, Brandon Flowers of The Killers? I don't think so. THIS is the album artwork for his debut solo album, entitled Flamingo.  It's a bit cluttered, as far as album artwork goes. Lots of THINGS in the room.  Off course everything is in a nice golden-bronze sheen except for Flowers

Mark Ronson Unveils Album Artwork for 'The Record Collection'

Mmm Mmm Mmm. Mark Ronson is one good looking dude. Even when his face is created using a multi-colored patchwork effect. Still HOT. Ronson's forthcoming third album, The Record Collection, isn't out here in the States until October 5th but I don't know if I can wait that long. I might have to splurge on a UK import when it's released on September 27th. Yeah, only a few days but that's a few

Review: Christina Aguilera - You Lost Me (Hex Hector & Mac Quayle Radio Edit)

God. It seems like Hex Hector and Mac Quayle have been M.I.A. for SO LONG. I remember when these guys were mixing EVERYBODY from Whitney Houston, Patti Labelle, Toni Braxton, Annie Lennox, Britney Spears, Anastacia and many many more. Pretty much every mix that I heard and loved was by Hector or Quayle or some combination of the two of them. Of course, this was back when I wasn't too familiar

'Drank' Up: Girlicious Help Make 'Jersey Shore' Soundtrack [Somewhat] Listenable

Um...don't hate me but I kind of love this song...and it appears that I'm not the only one. Entertainment Weekly named "Drank" by Girlicious as one of THE songs to download on the just released soundtrack to MTV's trash-tastic reality show Jersey Shore and I quite agree.

I've always had a soft spot for Girlicious (Nichole Cordova, Natalie Mejia and Chrystina Sayers), ever since watching the CW

Hot Video Alert: Preeya feat. Mumzy Stranger - Shimmy (Live on GMTV)

Now I'm no miming expert but it sure sounded like TRIPLE THREAT Preeya Kalidas was singing her debut single "Shimmy" live this morning on UK morning program GMTV...right? Am I wrong?  If that is her singing live, I I'm impressed. What a voice!  Miming works if you're a seasoned pro but as an artist just starting out in POP you HAVE to make an impression and really show your talent (*AHEM*

Hot Video Alert: Wynter Gordon - Dirty Talk

"Dirty Talk" is an infectious bit of electro-pop sweetness.  And the just released Armen Djerrahian-directed music video?  Not what I expected...at all.

It all starts out a bit 'Harry Potter,' with Gordon, dressed in a school uniform, saying good bye to her mates.  Clutching a big spell book, she wanders off into the forest. When she falls into trouble (literally), thank GOD for the naughty

Not Out Til' September, Robyn Teases Fans with New Single

All I can say after listening to the SINGLE version of Robyn's next single, "Hang With Me," (off Body Talk Part 2) is....WHY THE #$&! DO WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL SEPTEMBER 6th?!?!?!?!?!?! This just seems so unfair! YES, Robyn is busy with releasing 3 "mini-albums" over the course of one year NOT TO MENTION touring with Kelis on the All Hearts Tour but one single per album?  "Dancing On My Own,"

Hot Video Alert: Jedward - All The Small Things

*SIGH* Seriously? I was not-so-secretly hoping that we'd heard the last of Irish brothers, John & Edward Grimes (AKA Jedward) from X-Factor after they were dropped by Sony but sure enough, they were picked up by Universal the very next day.  I'm all about having a laugh (and watching them do the 'Ghostbusters' theme song was HILARIOUS) but recording an album? Granted, I couldn't help but crack

Paloma Faith To Release 'New York' Remix with Ghostface Killah

I don't know how I missed this news, but apparently UK singer/songwriter Paloma Faith will be re-releasing her second (and highest charting) single as a remix featuring the Wu-Tang Clan's Ghostface Killah.  Not quite sure about this decision. Sure, of the four singles released off of Do You Want The Truth of Something Beautiful?, "New York" was the highest charting, but why not wait until we

Kaci Battaglia Is Bringin' Sexy Back With New Single, 'Body Shots'

It's been over a year since Kaci Battaglia released her last single, "Crazy Possesive (I'll Muck You Up)" but the wait for a follow up is FINALLY over. "Body Shots," Kaci's second single off of her as yet untitled new studio album is a dirty, raunchy club smash, similar to "Patron Tequila" by The Paradiso Girls (who also waited FOREVER between singles) in that it's a song about drinking in a

Hot Video Alert: Taio Cruz - Dynamite

Taio Cruz is a bonafide HITMAKER here in the U.S. now that his first 2 singles have hit Top Ten on the Billboard Hot 100. "Dynamite," the follow up to his Billboard #1 "Break Your Heart" is climbing the chart (currently at #6) and I'm not complaining. The song follows the same pop/dance formula as "Break Your Heart" so it's no wonder that it's doing just as well as it's predecessor. The

Review: Katie Melua - A Happy Place: The Remixes

LOVE LOVE LOVE these remixes for the new Katie Melua single, "A Happy Place." The promo is well worth the price I payed for it on Ebay. For real. The standout by a longshot for me is the Robbie Rivera mix. It's EPIC and beautiful and very much preserves the beauty of the original song. 2 minutes in is where the magic really starts to happen. That's when the song EXPLODES into a bangin' club

Review: Eliza Doolittle - Pack Up: The Remixes

So I got my copy of the Eliza Doolittle remix promo for her second UK single, "Pack Up" and I have to admit, I'm a bit underwhelmed. Honestly, I don't really know what I was expecting. The song was written by Doolittle and samples the 1915 song "Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit-Bag". I think it's the sample that really creates the problem for the remixers here. The 5-track Polydor

Hot Video Alert: Marina and The Diamonds - I Am Not A Robot (Live on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson)

Making her American Television debut, Marina & The Diamonds performed "I Am Not A Robot" on Thursday's Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. I'm going to go ahead and agree with The Prophet, in that it's DEFINITELY one of her best vocals to date. The Welsh singer/songwriter seems like she's doing EVERYTHING she can to pull off the PERFECT performance for her U.S. debut, clutching the mic

Amy Winehouse Confirms Rumors, New Album Expected Out In 'Six Months at the Most'

Well, Amy Winehouse has confirmed what the Mirror reported yesterday, that a new album WILL in fact be coming out in the new year. Hallelujah! Winehouse told reporters the news outside the London premiere of Psychosis, a film written and directed by her boyfriend Reg Traviss.

"It's going to be very much the same as my second album, where there's a lot of jukebox stuff."  The singer went on to

Free Download: Kid Cudi, Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij and Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino Come Together for Converse

LOVING this! Leave it to apparel-maker Converse to bring together an unlikely group of artists, lay down a track and make it work.  Kid Cudi, Vampire Weekend vocalist/instrumentalist Rostam Batmanglij and Best Coast's own Bethany Cosentino make beautiful music together in the recently released song "All Summer," available as a free download on the Converse website.  The song is accompanied by

Jesse McCartney Flexes His Urban/Pop Muscle on new AutoTune-Heavy Song

Just saw a TWEET about this today and am kinda feelin' it. Check out this new track by Jesse McCartney called "Up." It's featured on the upcoming soundtrack for Step Up 3D (due out July 27th) and was produced by Dapo Torimiro.  The sexually-charged, AutoTune-heavy track features McCartney really flexing his R&B muscle, giving us a taste of what his new album is likely going to sound like.

Pure 'Happiness': Hurts Unveil Album Artwork, Tracklisting for Debut LP

The electronica duo from Manchester, Hurts have announced the tracklisting and cover art for their debut album, Happiness, due out in the UK September 6th on RCA Records.  The duo's debut single "Better Than Love" came out at the end of May and was written by Hurts (Theo Hutchcraft, Adam Anderson) and Joseph Cross.  While the single, which featured remixes from Tiefschwarz and Jamaica, only

Hot Video Alert: Ne-Yo - Beautiful Monster

Singer/songwriter Ne-Yo is BACK with a song that sounds...well...like all of his other songs.  "Beautiful Monster" is a nice little R&B-dance-pop concoction that works in the same way previous efforts like "Closer" and "Because of You" worked. All of the above are up-tempo, club-friendly Top 40 tracks with the same general vibe. Ne-Yo knows what works, and seeing how busy he's been lately as

'Aphrodite' Debuts In Billboard's Top 20, Marking Kylie Minogue's Highest Chart Debut in 8 Years

Congratulations to Ms. Kylie Minogue, whose 11th studio album, Aphrodite, debuted at #19 on the Billboard 200! WOOHOO! What an accomplishment! This makes Aphrodite Minogue's highest charting album here in the states since 2002's Fever! Quite the accomplishment, wouldn't you say? The album went Top 10 in a bunch of the major U.S. markets including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago AND Boston. As

Sky Ferreira Single Gets Remix Love from WAWA, Style Of Eye and More!

Portrait by Rankin (via MySpace)

You heard me RAVING about this brilliantly-amazing song called "One" by the young and talented Sky Ferreira...NOW hear me raving about the upcoming remix package for said song called "One." As Rachel Zoe might say..."I die." EEEEE!  The Rankin-shot video for the single is getting lots of good feedback from bloggers and music fans alike and the song is ALREADY

Russian Rock Star Max Pokrovsky 'Shopping' Around a Career in UK Pop

Photo from podst.ru
As we've established before, I do love me some Russian pop stars.  The next Russian import to try and take the UK by storm is Max Pokrovsky...leader of the Russian rock band Nogu Svelo!, one of Russia's most successful rock outfits. The band's popularity stretched all across Eastern Europe as well as amongst Eastern European communities throughout Europe and the rest of the

Cross Your Fingers: Amy Winehouse To Release New Album As Early As January

Dear GOD let this be true. Amy Winehouse could be back with a new album as early as January! Up until now, there have been conflicting reports about Winehouse's progress on the album, with Mark Ronson recently stating that the two have yet to lay down any tracks. WELL...the UK's Mirror is reporting that Winehouse has enough material for "three separate albums." EEEEEE! She has a lot to live up

iTunes Live From Soho Present - V.V. Brown

iTunes released a special 'Live From Soho' EP for one of my favorites from across the pond, Ms. V.V. Brown. The six-track EP features Brown doing pretty much the same exact set I've seen her do twice this past year - well maybe a slightly abbreviated version of the same set. The sound quality is terrific considering it's a live show, although it was being recorded professionally so it's not

The Saturdays Reveal 'New' Album Details, Cover Art

Boys and girls! The number of UK girl groups is DWINDLING down to near nothing and I don't like it one bit.  Back in the day it used to be girl power to the max, with the Sugababes and Girls Aloud ruling the UK charts.  This is the case no more.  The Sugababes last album and subsequent singles didn't really impress anyone (or make any significant chart moves) and with Girls Aloud on an

Robbie Williams Reveals Artwork and Tracklisting for New Greatest Hits Collection

Gabriella Cilmi to Release Double A-Side August 22nd, Unveils New Single Artwork

Gabriella Cilmi has unveiled the single artwork for her third single off of Ten, "Defender," a ballad written by Cilmi, George Astasio and Jason Pebworth, and produced by The Invisible Men. The single, a double A side, also features a new song - "Magic Carpet Ride," included on the official soundtrack for the film Soul Boy, "a coming-of-age drama set in the 1970s Northern Soul underground music
