Singer/Songwriter Rumer Performs at The White House; New 70s Cover Album Out May 28th

As I sit here listening to Rumer's 70s-inspired new single, "P.F. Sloan," I'm kicking myself for not covering her sooner here on Music Is My King Size Bed.  A cover of a song written by Jimmy Webb, "P.F. Sloan" is named for the 60s American pop/rock singer/songwriter who, in addition to his own successful career, wrote various Top 20 hits for The Searchers, The Mamas & The Papas and

Electro-Gothic-Warrior Karin Park Unveils New 'Restless' Remixes; Single and Album Out May 28th

Last month I was so impressed with the Björk-like sounds of Swedish singer/songwriter Karin Park, that I touted her as a 'One to Watch' this year.  Now as the impending release of her new single, "Restless" draws nearer, I'm still feeling as confident as ever with my decision.  Set for release on May 28th (iTunes UK) through State Of The Eye Recordings, "Resltess" is the first single taken

[Hot Video Alert] Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifa - Payphone

And just when I thought Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine couldn't get any hotter, he goes ahead and gets all sweaty and sooty in his new music video. In the Samuel Bayer (Justin Timberlake, Green Day)-directed video for Maroon 5's latest single, "Payphone," released last Thursday, Levine plays a lowly bank worker in the wrong place at the wrong time.Playing the part of a geeky banker mad

Icelandic Singer/Songwriter Jon Jonsson Releases Debut Album

So apparently not everyone from Iceland comes to awards shows dressed in a dead swan costume. Case in point, up and coming Icelandic singer/songwriter Jón Jónsson.  In listening to his new single, "When You're Around," Gavin DeGraw immediately comes to mind.  Jónsson's got a smoothness to his voice that makes you hang on every word.  "When You're Around" is definitely a singer/songwriter's

[Album Review] Paloma Faith - Fall To Grace

"Excited" doesn't even BEGIN to describe my feelings surrounding Paloma Faith's new album, Fall To Grace, out May 28th via RCA Records.  Ever since hearing her retro-steeped debut single, "Stone Cold Sober," I've been obsessing over this mega-talented 26 year old from London, wondering why the rest of the world wasn't equally as obsessed.  By the time her second single came out, I was hell

Interscope Recording Artist Zander Bleck Drops New Remix EP, Dave Audé Remix Out May 15th

Immediately after listening to his new single, "Temptation," I made singer/songwriter Zander Bleck a Music Is My King Size Bed 'One to Watch,' and for good reason! He's a phenomenal talent with rock star swagger and pop star sensibilities.  I mean, HEY. If you can win over a notoriously tough label head like Interscope's Jimmy Iovine, you've gotta have something

Ones to Watch in 2012: Ben Howard

Have you heard of Ben Howard?  Until recently, neither had I (although a song of his, "Promise" did appear in an episode of House this season).  Try as I might to remain ahead of the curve when it comes to quality UK music, this talented guy slipped by unseen and unheard.  Hey, it happens! There's just so much good stuff coming out of the UK these days that I can't keep track of it all.

[Review] Paije Richardson - Bang Bang

Unless you're a resident of the UK, you probably haven't heard of Paije Richardson (even if you are, I'm not sure how well known he is), so here's a bit of a refresher.  Paije competed on the The X-Factor, Series 7, known for his big range, big notes and big talent.  While he was ultimately eliminated from the competition (that went on to crown Matt Cardle as winner), Richardson stuck with

[Review] Sammy Adams - Only One

Sorry Sammy. Sorry for ignoring all of those early PR emails back when you were promoting your debut album, Boston's Boy. Sorry that it took me this long to post about you. All I can really say is, better late than never...

New York City-based rapper/songwriter/producer Sammy Adams originally hails from Cambridge, MA, only a hop, skip and a jump away from where I live now.  His new

Ones to Watch in 2012: Lonsdale Boys Club

According to their Twitter bio, West London trio the Lonsdale Boys Club are the "original disco swagger cats." Not sure quite what that means, but after listening to their debut single, it's evident that these guys have swagger for days.  Lonsdale Boys Club (AKA Charlie, Topher and Loz) are set to release their first spunky-fresh single, "Light Me Up" on May 22nd via (X-Factor judge &

[Review] Ricki-Lee - Do It Like That

I have to admit, I'm a little bit worried about Ricki-Lee, after her latest single "Do It Like That" fizzled out at #34 on the ARIA Singles Chart, following it's March 23rd release in Australia.  Why concerned?  Well, for starters, the lead single off Ricki-Lee's currently untitled third album, "Raining Diamonds" has already achieved Platinum status with over 70,000 copies sold, becoming her

[Review] Colbie Caillat featuring Common - Favorite Song

When I first heard that Colbie Caillat was pairing up with rapper/actor Common for her new single, "Favorite Song," I was a little skeptical.  Sure, rappers have paired up with singer/songwriters in the past (Common paired up with Lily Allen on what would become one of my favorite songs!) but something in me just couldn't see Colbie's light & fluffy pop/rock style meshing with Common's

[Hot Video Alert] Marcus Collins - Mercy

Marcus Collins really is like Janelle Monae's little brother!  Last year's 23 year old X-Factor runner up shows his true colors (literally) in the video for his forthcoming new single, "Mercy."  The horn-laden retro-soul stomper is the second single taken from Collins' self-titled album, which was released back in March, when it debuted at #7 on the UK Albums Chart.  "Mercy," due June 3rd

[Hot Video Alert] Justin Bieber - Boyfriend

I feel a FEVER comin' on...specifically a BIEBER fever.  To the delight of screaming little girls all over the world, Justin Bieber premiered the video for new single "Boyfriend" on MTV and VEVO at 7:50 PM this evening.  I'm embarrassed and a little bit ashamed to admit that "Boyfriend" marks the very first Justin Bieber post here on Music Is My King Size Bed.  So go easy on me!

[Hot Video Alert] Rihanna - Where Have You Been

"Where Have You Been," Rihanna's latest single, hasn't even been officially released and it's already takin' names and breaking records.  According to VEVO, the recently released, Dave Meyers-directed music video has broken VEVO's record for most views in 24 hours! Go RiRi!Produced by Dr. Luke, Cirkut, Calvin Harris and Co-written by Ester Dean, Henry Walter, Geoff Mack, along with Luke and

[Hot Video Alert] John Mayer - Shadow Days

John Mayer, you can do no wrong in my eyes.  I have so many fond college memories involving Room For Squares, listening to it in my dorm room and on short road trips.  It blows my mind that it's been over ten years since it's release! It's a new classic in my opinion, one that I'll never get sick of playing.  I gotta hand it to John Mayer for keeping it consistent across the majority of his

[Hot Video Alert] Foster The People - Houdini

In case you missed it, indie pop trio Foster The People dropped their special FX-laden video for fifth single, "Houdini" on April 25th.  While it's going to be virtually impossible for the band to top the success of their breakthrough hit, "Pumped Up Kicks," that shouldn't be a deterrent against releasing AWESOME music videos.

[Hot Video Alert] The Wanted - Chasing The Sun

In the recently released video for "Chasing The Sun," the boys of UK boy band The Wanted play victim to a troop of blood thirsty vampire vixens. Not too original if you ask me but it fits the song title perfectly.  At least Director X didn't take it in a Twilight direction, choosing instead to pay homage to Wesley Snipe's 1998 action/superhero film, Blade, about a part man/part vampire

[Hot Video Alert] Cheryl Cole - Call My Name

Time for (possibly) the UNDERSTATEMENT of the year: Cheryl Cole is one FIERCE bitch.  OOZING sex in the JUST released video for new single, "Call My Name," Cheryl gives us all a highly caffeinated, neon-filled tutorial in FABULOSITY and I want to take it AGAIN!

In the grimy, dirty (yet still somehow chic and classy) Anthony Mandler-directed clip Cheryl first dazzles us into

Yessir! More dates than previously mentioned! Good news for me, the band is coming back to Boston, and while they're

Ones to Watch in 2012: Murray James

STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING. Listen to this song. This is Murray James, and he might just be my latest obsession.  "In The City" is the title track and first single taken from his upcoming debut album, due July 30th (UK iTunes) on Deconstruction/Sony Music.  It's hard to describe his vocal style because it's so unique and original, but I do hear little bits of James Blunt and James Morrison

[Review] Regina Spektor - All The Rowboats

I, like the majority of America, fell in love with singer/songwriter Regina Spektor after hearing "Fidelity," from her 2006 album Begin To Hope.  I'm not sure if it was the song's appearance on a popular TV show like Grey's Anatomy, or perhaps in a commercial but as soon as it played for the first time, I couldn't get enough.  Spektor's voice, while not all that powerful, is

[Hot Video Alert] Eva Simons - I Don't Like You

In the recently released video for Eva Simons' debut Interscope single "I Don't Like You," the fierce Dutch electropop diva exacts revenge on a skeezy ex boyfriend by trashing the hell out of his spacious loft.  Of course Simons arrives for the occasion dressed for the club, her trademark mohawk styled high, complete with a troop of equally fabulous cohorts.  The girls wait for the douche-bag

[Hot Video Alert] Cher Lloyd - Want U Back

Releasing "Want U Back" as Cher Lloyd's official first U.S. single was a smart move on the part of her U.S. label, Epic Records.  Releasing it without X-Factor's resident rapper Astro was also a smart move. Astro's addition to the UK version of the single always seemed contrived to me. Hell, it certainly didn't add anything valuable. The song's strengths lie completely in Lloyd's sassy

[UPDATE] Hot Video Alert: Aiden Grimshaw - Is This Love

UPDATE: U.S. fans, check out the link BELOW to watch the video!

This is the video for Aiden Grimshaw's debut single, "Is This Love," which made it's official VEVO debut earlier this morning after premiering on The Guardian's website.  Directed by Charlie Robinson and Joe Alexander, the clip features Grimshaw in no more than a cameo.  He actually appears in a couple of shots, in one he's

[Hot Video Alert] Kevin Rudolf - Don't Give Up

"Don't Give Up" is the latest offering from American rock-singer/songwriter/producer Kevin Rudolf.  Released April 17th, "Don't Give Up" was written by Rudolf and serves as the first single off his upcoming third album, due out this summer via Cash Money/Universal Republic Records.  If I'm being honest, I wasn't even sure Kevin Rudolf was still around, at least not as a solo act.  The

Nelly Furtado Dazzles on New Darkchild-Produced Single, Fifth Studio Album Out June 19th

WHOA Nelly Furtado! You've done it again.  Your new single, "Big Hoops (Bigger The Better)" is hot.  Had I reviewed the single immediately after the first listen, I might be singing a different tune, but after having the song on repeat for the past hour, you've managed to swing my vote.  Serving as the first single off Furtado's upcoming fifth studio album, The Spirit Indestructible, the

Haley Reinhart Announces Series of Free Concerts & Album Signings, Performs Debut Single on Conan

So as I teased last week, American Idol third-runner up (and my personal fav) Haley Reinhart performed her debut single, "Free" on Conan this past Tuesday.  Watch Haley TEAR IT UP with Conan below. If I'm being honest, vocally, this was not her best performance.  She sounded a bit better during her Idol performance, but she does hit her stride and when she does,

[Review] Wolfette - Risk For You

There's no doubt about it, UK singer/songwriter Wolfette keeps getting better with each song she releases.  Her latest hit, called "Risk For You," is due out May 28th and very well might be her best yet.  It's probably not a coincidence that my favorite Wolfette track is also her most commercial-sounding single.  This is not to say Wolfette is selling out, on the contrary, she's showing her

Katharine McPhee's 'Touch Me' Gets the Remix Treatment

I suppose it was only a matter of time before Katharine McPhee's DELICIOUS new single, "Touch Me" was given the royal remix treatment.  Serving as the first single off of the official SMASH soundtrack, "Touch Me" was produced and written by Ryan Tedder (Leona Lewis, Kelly Clarkson) with Brent Kutzle (Beyonce, Cobra Starship), Bonnie McKee (Katy Perry, Britney Spears) and Noel Zancanella (

Ones to Watch in 2012: Zander Bleck

THIS is Zander Bleck. Familiarize yourself because this guy's got MAJOR potential.  Released in February, Bleck's debut single, "Temptation" is an 80s-inspired electro rock jam that he co-penned alongside legendary songwriter Holly Knight (Heart, Tina Turner, Pat Benatar).  Add to that, you know a song is HOT when you attract the attention of a hit maker of RedOne's (Lady Gaga, Enrique

Scottish Pop Rocker Amy MacDonald Delivers on New Single, Third Album Due June 11th

My favorite Scottish pop/rocker is BACK with a brand new single and I couldn't be more excited!  Last time we heard from 24 year old Amy MacDonald from Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, Scotland was back in 2010 when she released her sophomore album, A Curious Thing.  Now, MacDonald, one of Europe's biggest selling singer/songwriters is ready to dazzle the world with her insane guitar

[Hot Video Alert] Gabriella Cilmi - Vicious Love

Back in January, Australian pop singer/songwriter Gabriella Cilmi QUIETLY released a new video onto her official YouTube page for a song called "Vicious Love."  The new song sees Cilmi moving away from the mainstream electropop sound of her 2010 sophomore album, and going back to basics with a more pop/rock sound.  "Vicious Love" is a return to form for the talented Cilmi who's debut album,

[Hot Video Alert] Giulietta - VooDoo

You might remember my piece on Australian dance/pop singer/songwriter Giulietta from earlier this month when I made her one of my 'Ones to Watch in 2012.' Well, looks like I was right about that. Giulietta just released a scorchingly hot video for her new single, "VooDoo," and it's definitely worth watching.  Produced by Simmy Beats, "VooDoo" is the second single lifted from Giulietta's

[Review] Adam Lambert - Never Close Our Eyes

Released April 17th, "Never Close Our Eyes" is the name of Adam Lambert's new single from his forthcoming sophomore album, Trespassing.  The single was written and produced by Bruno Mars and Dr. Luke and serves as the follow up to "Better Than I Know Myself," which by most accounts was a commercial floppity-flop.  "Never Close Our Eyes," sees the flamboyantly big-voiced Lambert return to

[Hot Video Alert] Train - Drive By

Back when I was in college, I had the privilege of seeing Train open up for Ben Folds Five. It must have been 2001, because I seem to recall knowing at least two of their songs - "Meet Virginia," and "Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)."  While both of these songs were present throughout my college years, after college I fell off the Train train, so to speak.  Fast forward to 2009 and the release

Stacie Orrico On The Verge of Comeback, Releases Jazzy New Single 'Catch Me If You Can'

It's been nearly six years since R&B/POP artist Stacie Orrico released her last album, 2006's fantastically underrated Beautiful Awakening.  Since then Stacie has been seemingly M.I.A., leaving hardcore STANS like me waiting with baited breath for her to make her next move.  Well, I've got good news fellow Stacie Orrico stans.  It would appear that Stacie is on the verge of a comeback.

[Hot Video Alert] Jessie J. featuring David Guetta - LaserLight

Jessie J. premiered the video for the David Guetta-assisted "LaserLight" April 10th.  Featured on the Platinum Edition of her debut album, Who You Are, "LaserLight" will be Jessie J's final single off the album.  The stunning electro-house ballad was co-written by Jessie, The Invisible Men and David Guetta.

While it's not due to be released as a single until May 13th, the single has

[Hot Video Alerts] Preeya Kalidas - Love Between Us

I'm happy to report that the talented actress/model and singer Preeya Kalidas is BACK with a new single, "Love Between Us."  The R&B/pop jam is sprinkled with hints of Bollywood inspired beats and samples, proving to be an exquisite showcase for Kalidas' vocal abilities, more so than I think her debut single, 2010's "Shimmy" really was.

As I write this, it's hard for me to believe that it's

[Hot Video Alert] Lana Del Rey - Carmen

With "Carmen," melancholy songstress Lana Del Rey is up to her old tricks again, and by "old tricks" all I mean is splicing and dicing random clips to make a music video - clips of flowers blooming, the New York City skyline, old time movies, and such, cut with scenes of Del Rey on stage and with her boy toy acting all lovey dovey somewhere around New York. It's all very True Blood-intro

[Hot Video Alert] Erik Hassle - Stay

Come on Erik! Why you gotta make me cry! UGH! Sometimes, less really is more and Erik Hassle's new video for "Stay" is evidence of that.  Penned by Malin Dahlström of Niki & The Dove, "Stay" is the first single taken from Hassle's upcoming third full length studio album, entitled We Dance, due out later this Spring on Roxy Records (Hassle's Swedish label). No word yet on whether Hassle's

[UPDATE] Hot Video Alert: Scissor Sisters - Only The Horses

Sometimes a good music video can transform my opinions on a song from negative to positive.  I was secretly hoping this would happen following the video release of "Only The Horses," the first single from the Scissor Sisters' forthcoming album, Magic Hour.  Unfortunately, tis not the case.  If anything at all, I feel more MEH about the song than I did previously.  Maybe I'm just in a bad mood

I've been championing UK boyband The Wanted here on Music Is My King Size Bed for nearly two years.  My first post was back in June of 2010 when I wrote up a "Hot Video Alert" promoting their debut UK single, "All Time Low." It's amazing to me that it's two years later and the boys are releasing hits here in the U.S.  I feel like a proud Papa!

Gearing up for the release of their debut

[Hot Video Alert] Emeli Sandé - My Kind Of Love

While Emeli Sandé is busy taking over America, her fans in the UK are getting amped up for her the release of her fourth single, the sensational "My Kind Of Love," due May 7th via Virgin Records.  Written by Sandé, Emile Haynie (Kid Cudi, Tinie Tempah) and Danny Keyz (Dr. Dre, Eminem), with the latter two also serving as co-producers alongside Craze & Hoax (Tinie Tempah, Tinchy Stryder), "

[Review] American Idol's Stefano Langone Drops Debut Single

When I heard back in January that American Idol (Season 10) contestant Stefano Langone had signed with Hollywood Records, I was over the moon!  During his season, Langone was easily one of my favorite men on the show, and while he was a frequent resident of the 'Bottom 3' corner, JLo backed him throughout.  In fact, Stefano was JLo's Wild Card pick, which saw him advance to the Top 13.

[Review] Marcus Collins - Mercy

X-Factor Series 8 runner-up Marcus Collins is gearing up for the release of his second single, "Mercy," on June 3rd via RCA Records.  Taken from his self titled debut album, Collins co-wrote this soulful stunner with Lee McCutcheon (Westlife, Emma Bunton) and Lisa Greene (Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue).  The song serves as the follow up to Collins' top ten debut single, "Seven Nation Army,"

Hot Video Alert: Yenn - Pretty Ugly

It's been nearly a year since I posted about a little Vietnamese-American dance/club diva called Yenn but when I heard that she'd released a video for her latest single, "Pretty Ugly" last month, I had to give her a shout out.  "Pretty Ugly" is the follow up to Yenn's 2009 dance-hit "So Good To Be Wrong," which peaked on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart with remixes by Karmatronic, DJ

Australian Singer/Songwriter Delta Goodrem Releases Stunning New Single and Video

It's been about five years since we've heard a peep out of Aussie pop princess Delta Goodrem, but at long last, the wait is over.  "Sitting On Top of The World" is the 27 year old singer/songwriter's brilliantly concocted comeback single, destined to be a smash in her native Australia and hopefully the rest of the world.  Released in Australia and New Zealand April 13th, this up-tempo drop

[NSFW] Hot Video Alert: Daniel Bedingfield - Rocks Off

Daniel Bedingfield is BACK folks. For years I've been passively aggressively Tweeting in Bedingfield's direction, inquiring about new music ventures. new projects and the like. While Bedingfield never took the time to personally respond to my messages, he did me one up.  He released a new song, his first since 2005, I might add.  For those of you still stuck on the Daniel Bedingfield of

[UPDATE] Ones to Watch in 2012: Aiden Grimshaw

Nearly two years after gracing television screens all over the UK as a contestant on The X-Factor: Series 7, Aiden Grimshaw has (finally) unveiled his debut single and it's a wonder to behold.  "Is This Love," due June 3rd via RCA Records, was written by the 20-year old Grimshaw, and serves as the first single off his debut album, Misty Eye, out August 13th in the UK.  Listen to the single

Norah Jones Steps Up 'Little Broken Hearts' Promo Surrounding Album's May 1st Release

As the release date for Norah Jones's fifth studio album, Little Broken Hearts, draws nearer, Jones' promotional calendar appears to be filling up quite quickly.  Starting with the premiere of her "Goodbye Earl"-reminiscent video (BELOW) for lead single, "Happy Pills," earlier this month on VH1, Jones is in the midst of a media blitz that includes

Scissor Sisters Drop New Calvin Harris-Produced Single, Video Premiere Set for Thursday April 19th

Like Gossip, Scissor Sisters are another one of those American bands that are criminally underrated here at home but hugely popular abroad.  The drastically different radio landscapes here and in Europe frustrate the hell out of me sometimes, but what are you gonna do?  On May 14th, Scissor Sisters will release "Only The Horses" as the lead single off their upcoming fourth studio album,

Hot Video Alert: The Saturdays - 30 Days

On May 13th, UK girl group The Saturdays will release their new single, a catchy, slightly generic dance-pop number called "30 Days."  The track was written and produced by Steve Mac (One Direction, The Wanted, Kelly Clarkson) & co-written by Autumn Rowe (Alexandra Burke, Cher Lloyd, Leona Lewis).  At this point, we're not sure what this single is promoting, as it doesn't appear on the girls

Paul Simon Celebrates Graceland's 25th Anniversary with New Documentary and Album Re-release

For anyone in their early-to-mid 30s (like me), Paul Simon's Grammy-winning 1986 album, Graceland, likely played a huge part in your childhood.  For me, even to this day, Graceland is the ultimate soundtrack to any road trip.  As a child, I have fond memories that involve playing the cassette tape all the way from Chicago to Washington DC, where my aunt and uncle lived.  It's hard to

Ones to Watch in 2012: Alex Clare

If you've been anywhere near a television over the past couple of months, you've probably already heard the music of British singer/songwriter Alex Clare.  While Clare's song "Too Close" was originally released a year ago as a single, a recent ad for Microsoft's Internet Explorer 9 helped push the song to new heights and  international success.  Since the ads

Cheryl Cole To Release New Single and Album In June, Video Premieres May 2nd

While UK pop fans are all still shaking, hoping and praying for a Girls Aloud reunion, I may have the next best thing.  The return of Ms. Cheryl Cole.  Oh, and for the record, it's just CHERYL now.  That's right folks, Cheryl is back and she's going the MADONNA route and dropping her last name.  Cheryl's brand new single, "Call My Name" will be shipped out to UK radio on Friday April 20th,

Hot Video Alert: Mayer Hawthorne featuring Rizzle Kicks - The Walk

33 year old American singer/songwriter Mayer Hawthorne proves that when it comes to music, you shouldn't judge a CD by it's album cover.  On the outside, Hawthorne looks like a geek/hipster hybrid of some kind but OOOH CHILD...that voice is sweet as candy.  Picture a more soulful, R&B, less jazzy version of Harry Connick Jr. or something like that.  Perhaps a more laid back Eli "Paperboy"

Hot Video Alert: Karmin - Brokenhearted

Up until they were announced as the musical guest for Saturday Night Live's February 11th episode, I had no clue who Karmin was or where they had come from.  Come to find out, Karmin (AKA engaged couple Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan) hail from Brookline, Massachusetts, just a hop, skip and jump away from where I live, outside of Boston.  While the duo released EPs in both 2010 (Inside Out)

Hot off the success of her collaboration with DJ Fresh, Kosovo-born British singer/songwriter Rita Ora is ready to make a splash over on this side of the pond, releasing the video for her debut U.S. single "How We Do (Party)."  Produced by hip-hop hit makers The Runners (Keyshia Cole, Chris Brown, Usher), "How We Do (Party)" is the ultimate party song, borrowing lyrics from Notorious

Erik Hassle Releases Heart-Drenched New Single 'Stay', Sophomore Album Due Late Spring

23 year old singer/songwriter Erik Hassle has been one a 'Music Is My King Size Bed' fave, ever since he released his debut Swedish album, Hassle back in 2009.  Now, I'm pleased to announce the release of "Stay," (listen BELOW) a first tease off his forthcoming sophomore album.  The sonically stunning power pop ballad was written by Malin Dahlström of the Swedish electropop trio Niki & The

I have a treat for all you Keane fans out there - the brand new video for the band's new single "Disconnected."  As I reported this past weekend, "Disconnected" will be released April 20th in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.  The video, filmed at a haunted house in Barcelona, was directed by Spanish director Juan Antonia Bayona and writer Sergio G. Sanchez, who first worked together on

Portland-Based Electrorockers Gossip Drop New Single, Album out May 22nd

31 year old Beth Ditto of the American indie rock outfit Gossip probably has one of the most iconic pop voices of all time, which makes it all the more unfortunate the band is one of the most underrated & under-appreciated in the States right now.  Released March 13th on iTunes, "Perfect World," the trio's latest single, showcases Ditto's range and talent perfectly - restrained and

Hot Video Alert: Chris Rene - Young Homie

For those of you unfamiliar with Chris Rene, he's is the inspirational X-Factor USA contestant (and father of an adorable little boy, Ryan) who's troubled past and now bright future was chronicled during the reality show's first season.  A recovering drug and alcohol addict, Rene had been clean and sober for just 10 weeks at the time of his audition for the popular series.  First performed

Toni Braxton Reinvents Herself as a Dance Diva, Eighth Studio Album Due Next Month

90s R&B diva Toni Braxton is reinventing herself as a full fledged dance diva ya'll and I can't get enough!  "I Heart You" is the first single taken from Braxton's upcoming eighth studio album, a double disc set called Heartstrings & Synagogue Vibes, tentatively due in May.

Written by Toni Braxton and Keri Lewis, "I Heart You" starts out like your run-of-the-mill Toni Braxton R&B

Hot Video Alert: Demi Lovato - Give Your Heart a Break

Here is the video for Demi Lovato's newest single, "Give Your Heart a Break," taken from her third studio album Unbroken. Maybe my age is to blame for this one, but I keep getting Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez confused.  Am I crazy?  There are so many similarities between the two girls, how can you not get them confused?  Let's see; they are both signed to Hollywood Records; they are both

Hot Video Alert: Carrie Underwood - Good Girl

As ya'll know I am NOT a country boy - no way, no how. That being said, I've always had a little sweet spot for Carrie Underwood.  She's just so dang pretty and that VOICE. It's just BEGGIN' for a pop crossover song.  While Underwood herself has pretty much put the kibosh on a Faith Hill country-to-pop switcheroo, new single "Good Girl" is about as country-pop as we're going to get from Ms

New Keane Album, Strangeland, Due May 8th

I seem to be in the midst of an internal musical revolution of some kind.  While I'm still very much drawn towards pop and electronica, I find myself listening to a lot of alternative rock these days.  I haven't really been into alt rock since my high school days (as I mentioned in my Cranberries post). I have a feeling that this internal shift has something to do

Hot Video Alert: Niki & The Dove - Tomorrow

"Tomorrow" is a new single from Stockholm based electropop trio Niki & The Dove.  Formed in February 2010, Niki & The Dove is the aural genesis of Malin Dahlström (vocals), Gustaf Karlöf (keyboards) and Magnus Böqvist (drums).  Signed to Sub Pop/Mercury Records, the trio released their debut EP, The Drummer, back in October 2011, featuring two singles - "The Fox," and their only "hit" to

Garbage Set to Release First Album in Six Years on May 15th, First Single and Video Out Now

First The Cranberries come back, now Garbage? It just keeps getting better!  "Blood For Poppies" is the first new single from Garbage since the band went on "indefinite hiatus" six years ago and I couldn't be happier that Shirley Manson and the crew are back doing what they do best - creating dark, moody rocktronica music.

Written and produced by Garbage

Paloma Faith Premieres 'Picking Up The Pieces' Video & Remix, Fall To Grace Out May 28th

It should come as no surprise that after only a handful of listens, I am officially obsessed with Paloma Faith's new single, "Picking Up The Pieces" (out May 20th).  Serving as lead single from her sophomore album, Fall To Grace (out May 28th), "Picking Up The Pieces" was co-penned by Paloma, Wayne Hector (James Morrison, Westlife, Cheryl Cole), Tim Powell (Sugababes, Gabriella Cilmi, Pet

[UPDATE] Hot Video Alert: Tulisa - Young

I don't really know what to make of X-Factor judge and now former N-Dubz vixen, Tulisa Contostavlos' debut solo single, "Young." The song was written by Peter Ibsen, Ali Tennant and Richard 'Fazer' Rawson, who also served as producer on the track.  "Young" just might be one of those mindless summer club anthems that everybody dances to because it's playing.  Stop and listen to the lyrics (

Hot Video Alert: Ashanti featuring Busta Rhymes - The Woman You Love

It seems to me like R&B singer Ashanti has been searching for a hit since 2003, back when "Rock Wit U (Awww Baby)" was a top 5 hit and follow up single "Rain on Me" peaked at an impressive #7.  While her 2004 single "Only U" did modestly well, peaking at #13, overall the charts have not been friendly towards Ms. Ashanti in recent years, they don't appear to be getting any kinder with her

Hot Video Alert: Rufus Wainwright - Out of the Game

Rufus Wainwright unveiled the video for his new 70s-inspired single, "Out of the Game" on April 3rd and I've been obsessing over it ever since.  While my love and adoration for Rufus Wainwright just can't be denied, my love affair with English actress Helena Bonham Carter is like no other.  Whether you know her from the Harry Potter films (where she played the deliciously evil Bellatrix

Hot Video Alert: John Legend featuring Ludacris - Tonight (Best You Ever Had)

Sometimes, all it takes for a music video to hook me is a toned body.  In the case of John Legend's video for his Ludacris-assisted "Tonight (Best You Ever Had)", John Legend's toned body was a bonus. While the song starts out slow and steady, it wasn't long before the sexy beat came in and I was sold. Let me emphasize that it was absolutely the beat that sucked me in and not John Legend

Hot Video Alert: Jennifer Lopez featuring Pitbull - Dance Again

Clearly still riding high off of the success of their last collaboration, "On The Floor," Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull and mega hitmaker RedOne are back together on Lopez' next smash dance/pop single, "Dance Again."  Released April 2nd through Lopez's label Epic Records, "Dance Again" was co-penned by RedOne, AJ Junior, The Chef, Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull.  The song debuted on Billboard's Pop

[UPDATE] Hot Video Alert: Ellie Goulding - Lights (Live on The Ellen DeGeneres Show)

In case ya'll missed it, UK singer/songwriter Ellie Goulding stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show today to perform her hit single, "Lights" live.  The arrangement was a little bit different this time around, featuring an extended orchestral introduction before Goulding finally comes in for the first verse.  Goulding has never sounded better.  I never get tired of hearing this song!

Hot Video Alert: K'Naan featuring Nelly Furtado - Is There Anybody Out There

"Is There Anybody Out There" is a beautiful song, co-written and performed by Somali-born rapper K'naan from his EP, More Beautiful Than Silence.  Featuring Canadian singer/songwriter Nelly Furtado on the hook, "Is There Anybody Out There" was released digitally on January 24th and peaked at #15 on the Canadian Hot 100 chart.  Here in America, the song peaked at #30 on the Billboard Pop

Hot Video Alert: Lana Del Rey - Blue Jeans

"Blue Jeans" might just be my favorite track off of Lana Del Rey's debut album, Born To Die so I'm beyond ecstatic to see it get it's own official single release.  Released in the UK on April 8th through Interscope Records, "Blue Jeans" serves as the album's third single, backed my remixes from Gesaffelstein, Odd Future and Blood Orange with remixes on the way from RAC, D/R/U/G/S and Kris

Canadian electropop trio Dragonette (AKA Martina Sorbara - singer/songwriter, Dan Kurtz - bassist & producer, Joel Stouffer - drummer)  are back with a smashingly good new single, "Let It Go," which was released April 2nd.  The band is currently prepping for the release of their upcoming third album, the follow up to 2009's fantastic Fixin' to Thrill.  "Let It Go," which was written and

Hot Video Alert: DEV featuring Enrique Iglesias - Naked

"Naked" is the latest single to come from singer/songwriter AND protege of electro-hop duo The Cataracs, DEV. If you haven't heard of DEV, you might recognize her voice from Far East Movement's #1 hit back in 2010, "Like A G6."  "Naked" featuring Latin heartthrob Enrique Iglesias is included on DEV's debut album, The Night The Sun Came Up, which was finally released here in America on March

Ones to Watch in 2012: Karin Park

At first listen, Swedish singer/songwriter Karin Park sounds like the quirky lovechild of Björk and Lykke Li. Listen to her dark new electropop masterpiece of a single "Restless," below and I think you'll agree.  Following on the heels of her critically acclaimed UK debut EP, Tiger Dreams, "Restless" is the first single to be lifted off her forthcoming album, Highwire Poetry, which is due

Hot Video Alert: The Cranberries - Tomorrow

When I reflect back on my constantly shifting musical taste through the years, The Cranberries were definitely a part of my vastly growing CD collection, so when I learned that the Irish rock band was getting back together for the first time in 10 years, I was pretty excited.  Released on February 27th, Roses is the sixth studio album by The Cranberries and their first album in 10 years.

Justin Bieber Protege, Carly Rae Jepsen Lands UK #1 with Second Fastest Selling Single of 2012

As if the sudden rush of notoriety here in America wasn't enough for Canadian singer/songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen, now she's become an overnight success in the UK as well. Pretty effing fantastic.  Jepsen's smash single, the uber-catchy "Call Me Maybe" not only crashed into the top ten on Billboard's Hot 100 chart but following it's release last week in the UK, the former Canadian Idol

Ones to Watch in 2012: Ben Montague

Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to introduce you to Ben Montague.  This handsome young man is about to unleash a brand new single, "Love Like Stars" on June 18th and I have to say, after listening to the studio version I'm left completely mesmerized, wanting more.  An epic, sweeping, mid-tempo ballad, "Love Like Stars" is a cinematic, soundtrack-ready stunner, complete with a big swelling

Hot Video Alert: James Durbin - Stand Up

Admittedly, I gravitate towards female American Idol contestants, just for the simple fact that I like a female voice more than I like a male voice.  Case in point - James Durbin.  While watching Season 10 of American Idol, I was not the biggest James Durbin fan.  My problem?  I thought Durbin was essentially a less flashy and flamboyant version of Adam Lambert.  Every performance was "

Ones to Watch in 2012: Lune

I get pitched a lot of garbage as editor of Music Is My King Size Bed, and while not EVERYTHING I get is garbage, not everything I get is a good fit for my blog.  That being said, when I hear new music or learn about a new artist and there's an instant connection with their music, I know that I have to do a post.  That's what happens with a lot of 'Ones to Watch' artists, and Lune is a prime

Kris Allen Takes A Stand Against Bullying in New Video, Sophomore Album Out May 22nd

American Idol Season 8 winner and the object of all my earthly desires, Kris Allen is set to release his highly anticipated sophomore album, Thank You Camellia May 22nd on RCA/19.  While it feels like it's been at least a decade since Allen released his self-titled debut album, in truth it's only 3 years.  Wow. Ones to Watch in 2012: Giulietta

Allow me to introduce you to a new dance diva.  Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Giulietta is absolutely someone to keep an eye on.  This talented young artist became the first un-signed Australian artist to break the Billboard Dance Chart with a set of hotter than fire Dave Audé remixes of her single, "Vertigo."  The single peaked at an impressive #16 on the Billboard Dance Charts, an

Hot Video Alert: Rye Rye - Boom Boom

I am LOVING Rye Rye right about now. She's a little spitfire isn't she?  21 year old Rye Rye first caught my attention with her single, "Never Will Be Mine", featuring Swedish electropop Goddess Robyn.  "Never Will Be Mine," released nearly a year ago, served as Rye Rye's second official single from her forthcoming album, Go! Pop! Bang!, which is due out May 15th via controversial artist

Haley Reinhart Sizzles in Retro-Fabulous Debut Single & Video, Album Out May 22nd

Haley Reinhart was EASILY my favorite contestant during season 10 of American Idol.  There was just something about the quality and tone of her voice that was just so beyond her 20 years.  Every performance sucked me in and left me in a heap on the bed.  Unfortunately, after she appeared in the Bottom 3 four times during the run of the show, it became clear to me that Reinhart's days were

Hot Video Alert: Katy Perry - Part of Me

Not sure what it's been about the last couple Katy Perry songs, but they took some time to grow on me.  The very same thing happened with Perry's latest smash, "Part Of Me," and I don't know what it is.  Perhaps it's over saturation? Perhaps it's because all of the songs all sound the same (*AHEM* Dr. Luke)? Who knows?! For one reason or another, Perry's music doesn't instantaneously connect

Ones to Watch in 2012: Pepper

Pepper is someone I've been hearing about for a few months now, however it wasn't until recently that I decided to give her a proper listen and BOY have I (and you) been missing out. This girl's a vocal powerhouse.  While she has yet to release a single, we shouldn't have to wait too much longer.  Per Pepper herself via her official Twitter, "First single out soon, album to follow

Hot Video Alert: Gavin DeGraw - Sweeter

"Sweeter" serves as the title track and second single from American singer/songwriter Gavin DeGraw's fourth studio album.  Written and produced by DeGraw and Ryan Tedder, "Sweeter" is a worthy follow up to "Not Over You," which was released all the way back in May of 2011. Why the wait Gavin?  "Not Over You" peaked at a reasonably decent #18

Macy Gray Covers Radiohead, Kanye West, Colbie Caillat, Metallica and More on New Album

Macy Gray is back ya'll! Covered is Gray's sixth studio album and her first with 429 Records, a subsidiary of Savoy Label Group/Nippon Columbia.  Joining Macy on the 429 roster are notable artists including The Bodeans, Everclear, Edwin McCain, John Popper (Blues Traveler), The Proclaimers, and Tonic.  That's an awful lot of bands/artists that were popular in the 90s and early 2000s, no?

Hot Video Alert: Usher - Climax

"Climax" is the "genre-defying" lead single off of R&B singer/songwriter Usher's forthcoming seventh studio album, Looking For Myself, due out on RCA Records June 12th.  The banger was written by Usher along with co-writers Redd Stylez, Ariel Rechtshaid and Diplo, who also serve as producers on the track.  There's nothing I don't love about this song. Dark, gritty electro beats coupled

Katharine McPhee 'SMASHES' Through with 'Touch Me', Smash Soundtrack Due May 1st

If you watch Smash, NBC's brilliantly addictive prime time musical drama then you likely heard Katharine McPhee's song featured in last week's otherwise bland episode.  Co-penned by OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder (Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks, Leona Lewis) and Bonnie McKee (Katy Perry, Taio Cruz, Britney Spears) "Touch Me" is utter electropop magnificence.  While this dance pop gem is an awkward

Hot Video Alert: Monica & Brandy - It All Belongs To Me

R&B sensations Monica & Brandy have paired up for a new duet, "It All Belongs To Me," making it their first collaboration since "The Boy Is Mine" 14 years ago. Cassie Picks Up Right Where She Left Off with 'King Of Hearts'

It's official. I'm obsessed with Cassie's new single "King Of Hearts," which consequently means I'm obsessed with Cassie - all over again. It's been a minute.  I know, I know...I've been sitting on this one for a while now.  I've been reading about her new stuff over on MuuMuse and The Prophet Blog but only just recently sat down to listen to what she's been up to all of these years since

Hot Video Alert: Maria Mena - Viktoria

Maria Mena is a Norwegian singer/songwriter who hasn't released any new music in America since 2004 when she debuted her first international album, White Turns Blue preceded by the infectiously adorable pop single "You're The Only One."  I happened to stumble upon a recent post on my favorite Scandinavian pop blog, Scandipop.co.uk and saw a post about Mena's most recent Norwegian single, "

Hot Video Alert: Will Young - Losing Myself

I'm not quite sure how I missed this one, but I had to do a post spotlighting Will Young's brilliant new single, "Losing Myself."  The song is the third single lifted off Young's fifth studio effort, Echoes, which was released last August via RCA/Sony Music.  The album peaked at #1 on the UK Albums Chart and spawned the stunning Top 5 hit single "Jealousy."

Oh My Goodness! Olly Murs has confirmed that he is indeed the opening act for a good portion of One Direction's American tour this summer. I tell ya, there must be something in the Swedish water supply that's conducive to the creation of amazing pop music.  Beatrice Eli is yet ANOTHER talented singer/songwriter hailing from Sweden.  Dark and twisty, her style is a tasteful yet seductive combination of dark, atmospheric pop vocals and trippy electronic beats, coming together in the form of a masterful debut single, "The

Norah Jones Set To Release New Danger Mouse-Produced Album May 1st

I think it's safe to say that Little Broken Hearts might be my most anticipated Norah Jones album of her entire career and I really have to thank musician, producer, 1/2 of Gnarls Barkley AND 1/2 of  Broken Bells  - Danger Mouse - for that. I've been a fan of Norah Jones since she released her highly acclaimed, Grammy-winning 2002 debut Come Away With Me,

Hot Video Alert: Kat Graham - Put Your Graffiti On Me

Kat Graham is a bonafied triple threat, people. Look out and get excited!  Her new single is called "Put Your Graffiti On Me" and it's the first taste from her forthcoming major label debut, due out later this year.  In addition to singing and dancing, Graham stars in popular CW horror/drama, The Vampire Diaries, playing a powerful witch named Bonnie.  While Vampire Diaries might be her

Estonian Club Queen Kerli Releases Sexy New Single and Video

While Estonia is probably the LAST place you'd expect an international club queen to hail from, 25 year old Kerli has been paving the way for her fellow Estonians since 2008 when she released her debut single, "Walking On Air," followed by her debut album, Love Is Dead.  Of course, until fairly recently, Americans have been a bit slow to catch on when it comes to hot dance club tunes

Ones to Watch in 2012: Birdy

While I've been hearing rumblings about an artist called "Birdy" for a while now, until yesterday I had NO idea who she was or even what sort of music she made.  Perhaps I was subconsciously confusing her with Birdman, the Cash Money rapper? Whatever the reason, I'm highly embarrassed. I've seriously been missing out on an extraordinary talent.  Thankfully and fortunately, Ellen DeGeneres

Paloma Faith Announces New Nellee Hooper-Produced Single and Album

This is it folks...the moment I have been waiting for...English singer/songwriter Paloma Faith has announced a title and release date for her highly anticipated sophomore record, the follow up to her successful 2009 debut, Do You Want The Truth or Something Beautiful?  Just as she did with my with the release of her very first single, "Stone Cold Sober," Faith promises to re-capture my

Rufus Wainwright Pushes Boundaries to Release the 'Most Pop Album" of his Career

Man oh man. 2012 is shaping up to be a fine year in pop music, isn't it?  On April 23rd (May 1st in America), prolific American/Canadian singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright will release his seventh album, Out of the Game on Decca/Polydor Records.  Produced by the one and only Mark Ronson, Out of the Game is set to be "the most pop album" Wainwright has ever attempted and first single, the

Hot Video Alert: Jason Derülo featuring Jordin Sparks - It Girl (Remix)

American recording artist Jason Derülo unveiled a brand new remix of his single "It Girl," featuring his girlfriend, American Idol winner Jordin Sparks.  Not showcasing anything drastically different from the original, the "It Girl" remix features Sparks singing some verses as well as portions of the chorus and is accompanied by a super cute video featuring behind the scenes footage of Sparks

Katie Melua Gets Her Groove Back on 'Secret Symphony'

The last time I did a post about Georgian-born British songbird, Katie Melua, she was gearing up for the release of her fifth studio album entitled Secret Symphony.  The album was originally scheduled for release last November, however longtime label, Dramatico Records, pushed it back, not wanting to rush the star with promotional duties.  As eager as I was to hear new material, this was

Whitney Houston: My Top 20 Favorite Singles

R.I.P.
1963 - 2012

It's with an extremely heavy heart that I write about the passing of Whitney Houston.  The world has truly lost another icon.  I was in the middle of writing my most recent Natalia Kills post when I happened to glance down at my phone and saw a Tweet from The Ting Tings about the death of Whitney Houston. I immediately froze. I couldn't move.  I clicked the link, skimmed

Hot Video Alert: Natalia Kills - Kill My Boyfriend

"Kill My Boyfriend" is the final brilliant single taken from her equally brilliant debut album, Perfectionist which came out in the States last summer on Cherrytree Records/Interscope.  The song was produced by French DJ/Producer/Songwriter Junior Caldera, who co-wrote the song alongside Natalia and Julien Carret.  The song is pure pop PERFECTION at it's best and as good pick as any for a

Ones to Watch in 2012: Josh Kumra

Every so often a voice comes along that stops you dead in your tracks.  Seeing that that I typically gravitate towards strong female vocalists, for a male vocalist to draw me in, he has to be REALLY good.  Let me tell you, Josh Kumra is REALLY good.  What about Kumra's voice struck a chord with me?  What didn't, is a better question.  Stirring, soulful vocals with plenty of

Jessie James Finds Her Way Home with New Label, Single and Album

Back in August of 2010 I did a post on country pop singer Jessie James. The post was mostly centered around how the Italian born, Georgia-bread young singer was unhappy with the direction her label at the time (Mercury) was pushing her in.  Seems like the label was wanting James to go in a more pop direction, when James herself considered herself more of a country girl.  At the time, James

Hot Video Alert: Cher Lloyd feat. Astro - Want U Back

Cher Lloyd's latest single, "Want U Back" is hands down my favorite Cher Lloyd single released to date.  In fact, it might even be her best single released to date...granted, she's only released a total of 3 singles, but never mind that. I can also definitively say that my reasons for liking "Want U Back" so much have absolutely nothing to do with the last minute addition of U.S. X-Factor

Ones to Watch in 2012: Emeli Sandé

I love it when America discovers someone talented that the rest of the world has known about for months, even years! Today, the talent I'm referring to is Scottish singer/songwriter Emeli Sandé.  Sandé is due to release her debut album, Our Version of Events on June 5th via Capitol Records.  This is HUGE! I'm envisioning lots of promotion, performances on The Tonight Show, The Ellen DeGeneres

X-Factor UK Runner-Up Marcus Collins Covers The White Stripes, Preps for March Album Release

While the UK (and the rest of the world) eagerly awaits new music from Little Mix, winners of The X-Factor series 8, runner up Marcus Collins is already prepping for the release of his own debut single and album, both due this March via RCA Records.  Collins, the openly gay (former) hairdresser from Liverpool, came in second during his season of the popular reality music competition.  While

2012: The Year of Madonna

It's the moment you've all been waiting for...the return of M.D.N.A. Yessir, her Royal Highness, Ms. Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone is BACK with a hot new single and she's ready to blow all those other bitches right out of the water!  At the ripe YOUNG age of 53, Madonna proves with her new single why, after all of these years she still has what it takes to play with the new generation of

Hot Video Alert: Sam Sparro - The Shallow End

Since releasing his BRILLIANT self-titled debut album back in 2008, I've been eagerly awaiting new material from 29 year old Aussie-born/U.S. & UK based singer/songwriter Sam Sparro. Well folks, that moment has FINALLY arrived.  "The Shallow End" is the first tease of new stuff from Sparro, who's sophomore record, Return To Paradise, is due for release in May via EMI. HALLELUJAH!

Hot Video Alert: Adam Lambert - Better Than I Know Myself

In case you missed it, 30 year old singer/songwriter (and American Idol alum) Adam Lambert premiered the video for his brand new single, "Better Than I Know Myself" earlier today.  The beautifully shot Ray Kay directed video features Lambert playing two different versions of himself, good versus evil, if you will. The video plays out in a split screen format, with each "version" of Lambert

Ones to Watch in 2012: Carishma

Could Carishma be pop's new princess? If the rest of her material is anywhere near as catchy as her debut single, "Glow In The Dark" then the answer is 'quite possibly.'  Produced by Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, the man behind such hit songs as "The Boy Is Mine" (Brandy & Monica), "If You Had My Love" (Jennifer Lopez), and "Say My Name" (Destiny's Child), "Glow In The Dark" is an infectious

Hot Video Alert: Rebecca Ferguson - Too Good To Lose

Ch-ch-check it out! This is the fresh new video from X-Factor seventh series runner up Rebecca Ferguson for her brand new single "Too Good To Lose."  The sexy, soulful song was co-penned by Ferguson and Eg White, who also served as producer on the track.  Ferguson looks absolutely stunning in the otherwise uninteresting clip, which was filmed in the sunny Venice Beach area of Los Angeles.

K-Pop Superstars Girls' Generation Impress With Flawless U.S. Television Debut

If you were to ask me my thoughts on K-POP yesterday, I would have had nothing for you. Absolutely

N-O-T-H-I-N-G!
Don't call me a hater, just call me ignorant.  I just never stopped to listen. Korean pop just wasn't on my radar.  I was acutely aware of music coming out of the UK, Sweden and the States but Asia? Not even on my list.  Why? Ignorance. Stereotypes. In other words...no good

Hot Video Alert: Katharine McPhee - Beautiful (SMASH Cast Version)

I'm hoping and praying that THIS might be the break Katharine McPhee has so long deserved.  I've been a fan of McPhee's since she busted onto the scene as a fresh faced & flawless contestant on season 5 of American Idol.  While she may have lost to Taylor Hicks, America will see who the real winner is once Katharine's buzzed about new TV show SMASH premieres next Monday, February 6th on NBC.

Anastacia Set To Release New Version of 'What Can We Do (A Deeper Love)', Promises "2012 is Happening"

I can't believe that it's been over three years since the release of Anastacia's last album, 2008's Heavy Rotation. That's an insanely long time for the world to be without one of the greatest pop voices of all time.  Well, the wait is nearly over music lovers.  According to Anastacia via a January 17th video blog on her newly relaunched website, 2012 is going to be a big year for the 43 year

Ones to Watch in 2012: Rebecca Ferguson

I've had my eye on 25 year old Rebecca Ferguson since her flawless days appearing on the seventh series of The X-Factor in 2010. From the moment she first stepped foot on that audition stage, I knew big things were in store for the Liverpudlian single mother. Since coming in second on The X-Factor, the stunning Rebecca Ferguson has been hard at work launching her solo career.

Hot Video Alert: Florence + The Machine - No Light, No Light

I find it hard to believe that the last post I did on Florence + The Machine was back in May 2010 with a write up on the "Cosmic Love" video.  That's insane!  Clearly my blogging has taken a back site to life over the past few months.  Case in point? Oh, I don't know. Maybe the fact that I'm just NOW watching the video for Florence + The Machine's new single, "No Light, No Light." Well, I

Hot Video Alert: Dia Frampton - The Broken Ones

Released back in November, "The Broken Ones" is the first official single from Dia Frampton, one half of the sister-sister singer/songwriter duo Meg & Dia and runner-up on the premiere season of U.S. reality show The Voice.  While I'd heard of Meg & Dia before, I really only got to know Dia for the first time while she appeared on The Voice and it was then that I fell in love with her

Erika Jayne Lands Sixth Consecutive #1 on Billboard's "Hot Dance/Club Play Songs" Chart, Remains Flawless

Erika Jayne really knows how to make an entrance.  In the video for her latest club stomper, "Party People (Ignite The World)," Jayne slinks into the room, dressed to kill in a hot pink leather jacket, hounds tooth mini dress and sparkly Louboutins. With an entrance like that, it was pretty clear to me that Erika Jayne was well on her way to the top.

Since it's release in November via

Hot Video Alert: Selena Gomez & The Scene - Hit The Lights

Fan Art by mikayla156 via Coverlandia

Well it certainly appears that pint-sized pop princess Selena Gomez has found her pop music niche.  Unfortunately for Gomez, that niche - catchy-but-generic dance/pop - is one that I'm quickly growing tired of.  Case in point, her latest single.  The Dreamlab-produced "Hit The Lights" (released all the way back in October) was co-penned by Leah Haywood,

Review: Little Boots - Shake

"Shake" is the latest offering from 27 year old English electropop diva Victoria Christina Hesketh, better known to lovers of classy-not-trashy synth-laden smashes as Little Boots. "Shake" offers listeners a tease off of what's sure to be one of my most-anticipated albums of 2012, the young DJ/singer/songwriter's sophomore album, due out sometime this year via 679 and Atlantic Records.

Ones To Watch in 2012: Yasmin

Yasmin is someone I've kind of been sitting on for a while, then with all of my laziness and blog inactivity just sort of forgot to post about.  Man, am I sorry about that now! I'm right now, for the very first time, listening to Yasmin's new "old school, reggae infused carnival jam," "Light Up (The World)" featuring D'n'B/Jungle master Shy FX and the lovely Ms. Dynamite.  While I know

Hot Video Alert: Wolfette - Trophy Girl

Wolfette ROCKS. No doubt about it.  When I heard her second official single, "Different Story" last summer there was something about her that I just loved.  Obviously there was something, I hailed her one of my 'Ones To Watch' in 2011.  Sorry it took me until 2012 to post something else about her. My how time flies.  Wolfette is feisty, fiery...she just has it.  Her music is the perfect blend

Hot Video Alert: Sarah Burgess - Sassy

Sarah Burgess...where have you been all my life?  She's got a sort of Kat Graham/Neon Hitch mixed with Jessie and The Toy Boys vibe about her, which I love! A new(ish) video for a song called "Sassy" was recently sent to me and while I've only watched it a couple of times, I can already safely say that I'm obsessed with this girl.  The Ohio-born and current Pittsburgh resident, 24 year old

Hot Video Alert: Katy Perry - The One That Got Away

As much as I now love Katy Perry's latest Teenage Dream single, "The One That Got Away," seeing Perry in old woman makeup is making it rather difficult to take her seriously.  I'm of course referring to the Floria Sigismondi (Katy Perry's "E.T.", the film Runaways)-directed video in which Perry, playing herself as an old woman, reminisces back on an old love (played by Diego Luna) who died

Hot Video Alert: Graffiti6 - Free

So...Graffiti6 released a new video. It's not flashy, it's not crazy...it's understated and beautiful.  The Jay Martin-directed video is for the English electropop/rock duo's latest single, "Free" lifted off of their EP of the same name which came out back in October.  Set in a sparsely furnished loft somewhere in download LA, the video features an incredibly sexy Jamie Scott (lead singer)

Hot Video Alert: Mylène Farmer - Du Temps

I can't believe that the last Mylène Farmer single/video I posted about was 2010's brilliant RedOne-produced "Oui...mais non." Clearly I've dropped the ball with regards to this fabulous French dance/pop diva.  "Du Temps" is the most recent single released by the French Madonna and like all of her recent hits, it's uber catchy, despite my not knowing what the hell she's singing about.

Hot Video Alert: Melanie C - Weak

"Weak" is the second official single taken from The Sea, the new album from former Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm (AKA Melanie C), her first album in four years.  It's a beautiful, stirring pop ballad that really showcases the voice of the Spice Girls.  Despite having to share the spotlight with four other ladies, there's no denying that Sporty was the one with the pipes.  Sure, the others
