Hot Video Alert: Kate Bush - Deeper Understanding

I'm going to admit something I probably shouldn't admit. Until recently, I hadn't heard any of Kate Bush's music. Not really. Of course, I'd heard of songs like "Wuthering Heights," and "Running Up That Hill" but I guess I never really stopped and listened until now. Early on in my music-listening days, I would simply cast to the side any artist before 1981 (my birth year). This was probably

On June 5th, English rapper/singer Example (AKA Elliot John Gleave) will release his 9th single, the electro-charged "Changed The Way You Kiss Me." The album features production from

Neon Hitch Releases Hot New Track: Co-written by Switch, Produced by Benny Blanco

Folks, we have another HOT ONE on our hands! One of my favorite promising new talents, Neon Hitch, dropped a new track on her official SoundCloud page. Written by Hitch, co-written by Switch and produced by Benny Blanco  the auto-tuned-to-holy-hell, dub step-infused "Silly Girl" sounds like something off of Robyn's Body Talk album, and I'm not talking about discarded trash that didn't make the

Kylie Minogue Celebrates North American Tour with New Live EP

EEEEEEEEE! How excited am I? It's the eve before I see her royal Goddess, Ms. Kylie Minogue LIVE for the second time. Back during her 2009 U.S. tour, I flew home to Chicago to see her and tomorrow night, she's making an appearence in Boston, so I don't even have to travel. AMAZING! When I bought tickets to see Kylie's last tour, I knew she was going to be amazing but I had NO IDEA just

Swedish Pop Star Sabrina KingQueen Leaves Label, Remains Optimistic About the Future

Back in February I named Swedish pop star Sabrina KingQueen (AKA Sabrina Petrini) one of my "Ones To Watch in 2011," and reporting that her debut album would be out in March. Well, clearly March has come and gone with virtually no word. Turns out there was a reason, and it's one that we hear about all too often in the music biz. On April 25th Sabrina KingQueen formerly announced that she has

Robyn to Release 'Call Your Girlfriend' as Next UK Single

Per the majority of my most recent posts, I'm late "breaking" this story as well, but Robyn makes me happy so I'm going forward regardless. Robyn's second official single off of Body Talk (the collective 'Body Talk') has been announced as the Klas Åhlund-produced "Call Your Girlfriend." The single has already been released in Finland and Norway but is due for UK release on May 16th, backed by

Hot Remix Alert: Chris Brown feat. Benny Benassi - Beautiful People (Suneil S Remix)

I have a special treat for all you dance remix lovers out there. After putting his spin on Katy Perry's "E.T." and Chipmunk's "Champion" Suneil S is back with another hot remix. Chris Brown's latest single, "Beautiful People," in it's original form, had a great electro house/europ pop feel so you can imagine how hot it's going to be remixed by Suneil S. You can listen to the remix below and if

Hot Video Alert: Beastie Boys - Make Some Noise

OK, so I normally don't post too much in the way of hip-hop but I couldn't resist. This Beastie Boys video is just TOO cool not to post. "Make Some Noise" is the third official single from the boys' eighth studio album, Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, due out May 3rd on Capitol Records. The single reached #12 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and #22 on the Rock Songs chart. The video

Hot Interview Alert: Jessie and The Toy Boys

P-P-P-PUSH IT! I can't stop listening to debut single from Jessie and the Toy Boys, "Push It" featuring American rapper Yelawolf. The song is quickly rising on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart, jumping up two spots this week to #12. Make sure you download the hot remix EP on iTunes (HERE), featuring remixes by Junior Sanchez, Richard Vission, Ron Reeser & Dan Saenz, Skeet Skeet and Dirty

Ones to Watch in 2011: Colette Carr

BUZZ can be annoying. Too much BUZZ generally means that a label is overcompensating for a lack of talent. No BUZZ typically means that the artist doesn't have a good A&R. Yes, BUZZ is certainly something that can go either way for an artist, but in rare instances, an artist lives up to all of the BUZZ. Case in point 20 year old - Interscope/Cherrytree Records recording artist Colette Carr.

UK Pop/Rock Outfit The Feeling Collaborate with Freemasons, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Róisín Murphy on new LP - First Single Out Next Week

One of my favorite British bands, The Feeling is getting ready to release their third studio album, Together We Were Made, on June 19th. This is exciting for a number of reasons...FIRST being...it means that we have new music from The Feeling. SECOND, the band has collaborated with UK house music production duo the Freemasons. THIRD, the band has collaborated with electro-pop diva (and wife of

Hot Remix Alert: Beyoncé - Run The World (Girls) (Steamweaver House Remixes)

Beyoncé's new single has barely been out a week and the remixes are already coming out! First up we have a fabulous Steamweaver house treatment for Bey's new single, "Run The World (Girls)" which made it's digital debut last Friday. The jury's still out as to whether or not I like it the song or not. I'm leaning towards no...but it could be a grower.  Give the Steamweaver remix a listen below.

Hot Video Alert: Jordan Knight - Let's Go Higher

"Let's Go Higher" is the new solo single from New Kids On The Block's Jordan Knight and the first single lifted off of Knight's forthcoming fifth album, Unfinished. Co-penned by Knight and Colby O'Donis the song sounds about as catchy as anything else you'd hear on Top 40 radio today, which is kind of surprisingly.  You'd expect at nearly 40, Knight would be settling into the cliche realm of

Sky Ferreira Releases As If EP Lyric Video, Lands Cover of Women's Wear Daily

Check out this recently released lyric video for yet another amazing song off of Sky Ferreira's As If EP - "Traces." Written by Ferreira, Colin Munroe (Munroe also produced the track) and up and coming talent Neon Hitch, "Traces" is the fourth song off the EP to get a special lyric video. Alexis Jordan Tops the Billboard Dance Chart, Releases New UK Single + Remixes

19 year old American pop/R&B singer Alexis Jordan will release her third UK single, "Hush Hush" on May 8th. The up-tempo track was produced by StarGate and Sandy Vee and co-written by StarGate, Sandy Wilhelm and Autumn Rowe. Following in the dance club appeal of previous singles "Happiness" and "Good Girl" - releasing "Hush Hush" as single #3 was a given, especially given that nearly all of the

French/Israeli Singer/Songwriter Yael Naim To Release Third Album May 10th

French/Israeli pop-folk singer/songwriter Yael Naim is getting ready to release her third album, She Was A Boy on TÔT OU TARD May 10th. She Was A Boy is the follow up to Naim's eponymous 2007 sophomore album, featuring the top ten hit "New Soul" which debuted at #9 before moving up to #7 on the Billboard Hot 100, thanks mostly to it's feature in a MacBook Air commercial.  In turn, Naim became

Ones to Watch in 2011: Oh Land

Oh Land (AKA Nanna Øland Fabricius) is a Danish-born, Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter/producer that I've been obsessing with ever since I heard her debut single, "Sun Of A Gun." While the single seemingly came out half an eternity ago I haven't got to posting about it until now. If you haven't heard of Oh Land by now, then I guess it's new for you! Classically trained in ballet, a slipped

Hot Video Alert: Mason feat. Róisín Murphy - Boadicea

While still no word on Irish singer/songwriter Róisín Murphy's third solo album, she's been keeping fans happy with featured collaborations in a number of dance tracks. Amongst her the collaborators we have Crookers, David Byrne & Fatboy Slim, and most recently Dutch DJ Mason, who's latest single, "Boadicea" was released at the end of March. Check out the cinematically stunning video for the

Hot Video Alert: Bradley Say - Wasted

I first heard about UK "electropopurban" singer/songwriter Bradley Say back in August of 2009, when he was featured on Arjan Writes. Well, he's back with a brand new song and a brand new music video.

Say started the recording process for his debut album back in 2006, working in Adelaide Studios. There he wrote and produced 9 tracks and two remixes featuring Canadian rapper Bummy Chuckles.

Ones to Watch in 2011: KIDCITY

KIDCITY (AKA Kelly Ann and Caleb) is definitely worth your time. These two 21 year old college friends from the outskirts of Toronto call their style of music - "clip-hop," drawing heavily on both hip-hop and electronica music. The end result is a rich, dark, melodic sound that leaves the listener entranced and wanting more. The duo is set to release their

Pop Artist Jenefer Siân Releases New Single, 'Call You Out'

The last time I posted about Welsh-born pop artist Jenefer Siân was back in December when she released her video for new single "Call You Out." Siân called out to her fans to help raise funds through Kickstarter.com so that she could shoot the fabulous video, directed by Alan Wain (Michael Jackson, Sting, Carly Simon). Well, that single is finally available to download and it was most

Glee Star Matthew Morrison Releases Elton John Duet, Embarks on Solo Tour in June

Check out this cover that Glee star, Matthew Morrison recorded with the legendary Sir Elton John. It's a mash-up of "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters" and "Rocket Man," and it's pretty good. While Morrison's voice can come off a bit too theatrical for me at times, it's a lovely rendition of two classic songs. Add to the fact that Elton John himself is singing on the track, and we definitely have a

Estelle Is Back with a Sultry, Smooth New Summer Single

Estelle is back folks! "American Boy" was her breakout song here in America, but beyond that, chart success here in the States has been elusive...that is, until now. Her new single, the Rick Ross-assisted "Break My Heart" hits all of the right notes. It's a smooth, sultry R&B track tailor-made for Estelle's distinctive and soulful voice. While I absolutely loved her single "Freak,"

Ones to Watch in 2011: Christopher Norman

I've been following producer/performer Christopher Norman for quite some time now, so it's especially exciting for me to see just how much he's developed as an all around artist. EP1 is Norman's pop-oriented debut after establishing himself as a respected dance producer, DJ and remixer. Considering the fact that songwriting is something that Norman only delved into recently, I'm wholly

Hot Video Alert: Clare Maguire - The Shield and The Sword

Clare Maguire will release her third single, "The Shield and The Sword" on May 9th via Polydor Records. Written by Maguire and Fraser T. Smith, the song has long been one of her album's stand out tracks in my mind. Maguire's unique tone and dramatic vocals really shine in this single. Even before it's release the single was BBC Radio 2's 'Record of the Week' and has since been added to it's

Ones to Watch in 2011: TimPermanent

A little bit Owl City, a little bit Gary Go. That's how I would describe singer/songwriter TimPermanent. His "quirky and idiosyncratic style" really sets him apart from a lot of the other electro pop artists out there today and that's what I'm absolutely loving about him.

It was the French horn and clarinet that started TimPermanent's professional music career,

Oscar-Winning Actor Jeff Bridges Signs with Blue Note Records

Now, this news definitely falls under the unexpected but not so unexpected category. Actor Jeff Bridges (The Big Lebowski, True Grit) has signed with Blue Note Records/EMI Music Group and will release his major label debut album in late summer.  I say this news was "not so unexpected" because Bridges won the Academy Award for his portrayal of a down and out former country musician in the 2009

Ones to Watch in 2011: Nomi Madness?

Nomi Madness? is a flamboyant piece of electro-pop bubble gum and I can't stop chewing!  In reading his bio, it seems like music and entertainment in general has always been a strong influence in his life.  He sang in competitions as a young child, wowing crowds with his high notes and elaborate, self-choreographed dance routines (courtesy of VH1).   Things were going swimmingly - that is

Hot Video Alert: Blue - I Can

The boys of Blue haven't lost it one bit. Still as sexy as ever, Simon Webbe, Lee Ryan, Duncan James and Antony Costa are back as Blue and representing the UK at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest in Germany this Spring. I'm BEYOND thrilled to hear that these boys are back, seeing that I came upon them shortly before they disbanded, each pursuing solo careers with varying degrees of success.

Hot Video Alert: Eric Saade - Popular

Eric Saade isn't a name anyone knows here in America but in his native Sweden, he's kind of a big deal.  You see, on May 12th, Eric Saade will compete for Sweden in the second semi-final for Eurovision and has his whole country rooting for him - and he's only 20. WOW. They keep getting younger and younger, but he's Swedish and we all know that good pop comes out of Sweden.

    If you can believe it

Hot Video Alert: Nerina Pallot - Put Your Hands Up

While I've heard of Nerina Pallot, most recently as a songwriter for artists like Diana Vickers, Joe McElderry and Kylie Minogue - I've only recently discovered her as a SINGER. Sad, considering she's has three albums out, the most recent being 2009's The Graduate. Pallot also had success with her 2006 single, "Everybody's Gone To War" as well as the Ivor Novello-nominated song "Sophia."

Make A Scene: Sophie Ellis-Bextor to Release New Single + New Album June 6th!

No news is good news I guess, at least when it comes to word on UK singer/songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor.  It seems like I'd been waiting an eternity for solid, reliable word on exactly WHEN Ellis-Bextor would be releasing her 4th studio album. Sure, there were snippets of news and random interviews, but nothing official from her label - that is, until last week when we were hit with a SOPHIE

Ones to Watch in 2011: Oh My!

Oh My! - I love these girls! Oh My! (AKA Alex & Jade) is a promising new girl band from the UK that I just had to share with you. The duo are actually old school friends, who, like SO MANY before them, decided to start a band together. The name "Oh My!" comes from the song "Oops (Oh My)" by American R&B artist, Tweet featuring Missy Elliott. The song came out back in 2002 (almost 10 years

Jessie and The Toy Boys to Open for the Legendary Ms. Britney Spears

Jessie and The Toy Boys, Britney Spears (inset)
What an honor! One of my FAVORITE new artists, Jessie and the Toy Boys has been announced as one of the fabulous openers on Britney Spears' Femme Fatale tour! Earlier this month, Britney announced that Jessie and the Toy Boys, Nicki Minaj and Nervo would be joining her on tour as she promotes her latest hit record, Femme Fatale, released at the

Hot Video Alert: Kate Ryan - LoveLife

I distinctly remember being in Europe with the family, staying in a hotel and watching Beligian pop star Kate Ryan's cover of Mylène Farmer's "Libertine" video on Euro MTV. This might very well have been my first dabble in electro-pop/Euro-dance territory. As a song, "Libertine" still does it for me and as an artist...so does Kate Ryan. "LoveLife" is Ryan's new single, and the first off of

Hot Video Alert: Natalia Kills - Wonderland

It seems like it's been an eternity but we finally have a new Natalia Kills video to fawn over. Kills' third single, "Wonderland" was released digitally on April 12th, preceded by the absolutely stunning video. Natalia herself co-directed the video with her video production partner, Guillaume "G" Doubet, creating a dark, twisted fairy tale of sorts. The video draws loosely from Alice In

Frankmusik Does it in the AM: New Single Due Out May 3rd

Yes Yes Yes YES! New Vincent Frank music is HERE and it was worth the wait! I've said it before and I'll say it again - Frankmusik's debut album, Complete Me is one of my favorite pop albums of the past few years. If what I've heard from his sophomore effort is any indication, I think Frankmusik might have TWO ALBUMS on that list. Before going solo, Frankmusik was known for his remixes (Lady

Fenech-Soler Donate Proceeds From New Single to Charity, Album Due in the Fall

It's great when you can take something as serious as cancer and turn it around into something positive, and that's EXACTLY what UK electro-pop band Fenech-Soler has done. Recently diagnosed with early stage testicular cancer, lead singer Ben Duffy is currently embarking on a short course of chemotherapy which has forced the band to reschedule their forthcoming UK tour dates. As devastating as

Hot Video Alert: Britney Spears - Till The World Ends

If this is the end of the world, then I want to be there for it! Yes - I'm late with this one as well. The video for Britney Spears' second single off of Femme Fatale, "Till The World Ends" was released on April 6th. Set at an underground dance party on December 21st 2012, the Ray Kay-directed clip features Brit Brit dancing like it's the end of the world. The club scene was filmed in a

Ones to Watch in 2011: Black Porcelain

When I got an email about Black Porcelain, I got excited because I thought it was in reference to Universal recording artist, Porcelain Black (who's song "This Is What Rock N Roll Looks Like" I'm currently obsessing over). It was not. Bummer. Then I gave her EP a listen and all traces of disappointment melted away as soon as she started singing. WOW. <3.

Sky Ferreira Continues to Tease with Series of Lyric Videos, 'As If' EP Out Now

I still LOVE Sky Ferreira. I mean SERIOUSLY...I am in love with this girl. I am so anxious for her full length album to come out, I can't even think clearly! At least we have the UBER-FABULOUS As If EP to keep us happy until then. As I mentioned previously, the EP was released to tide fans over until the album's release. Released this past March, the 5-track EP is pure magic. Every single

Better Late Than Never: John Legend Covers Adele's 'Rolling In The Deep'

OH MY GOD! I know this is late coming but I don't care. John Legend's cover of Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" is ORGASMICLY good. Wow. Check out John Legend's soulful acapella cover of Adele's international hit single. It's so wrought with emotion...I almost can't take it.  John explained via Twitter that he loved Adele's version and just wanted to cover it. I'm certainly glad he did, and you

Hot Video Alert: Kyle Brylin - Committed

Check out unsigned electro-pop artist Kyle Brylin. This 21 year old singer/songwriter hails from Wisconsin (YAY - a fellow Midwesterner) and claims to do 95% of his own work. I'm not 100% sure if he's talking production, songwriting, or what but kudos to him! While his material doesn't sound completely polished, there's definitely a lot of potential here. His latest single, "Committed" was

Eliza Doolittle Announces U.S. Tour, Releases Debut Album on Tuesday

Boston-based pop group Jada release 'This Party's On Fire' Video Teaser

My favorite Boston-based girl group, Jada is comin' back with a new single and a hot new music video. "This Party's On Fire" was produced by Ric Poulin and will be Jada's follow up to 2009's "American Cowboy" and "Break Up Song." Based on the snippet I've heard, the song seems to be in the same 'DANCE-POP' vein as previous releases, which I'm not complaining about one bit. Since the release

Hot Video Alert: Krause - Follow Me

Sometimes all it takes to rope me in is a SUPER COOL music video, as was the case with Dutch singer/songwriter Susanne Clermonts. Clermonts, (AKA Krause) released her debut album, No Guts, No Glory last year through Sony Music Netherlands. The album was produced by Dutch drum and bass trio Noisia ('VISION' spelled backwards and upside down) featuring the title track as the lead single.

Singer/Songwriter Delta Maid Covers The Strokes, Releases Debut Single & Album in May

Liverpudlian singer/songwriter Delta Maid may be one of the most interesting artists to emerge from the UK music scene of late. She's a little bit country...she's a little bit bluesy...she's a little bit folksy - she's unique and she's different and I find that refreshing. While most young artists from the UK are focused on electro pop (which I also love) or more urban sounds, Delta Maid is

Ones to Watch in 2011: Jason Reeves

If you haven't heard of 26 year old singer/songwriter Jason Reeves yet, don't worry - you will! Reeves co-wrote 10 of the 12 tracks on Colbie Caillat's debut record, Coco, including popular singles "Bubbly," "Realize" (on which Reeves also contributes backup vocals) and "The Little Things." Signed to Warner Brothers by former American Idol judge (and current judge of Bravo's music show

Hot Video Alert: Baker - All I'm Gonna Say

There's only one thing I like more than electro pop, and that's a sexy male electro pop star. Baker is just that. Sexy, talented and oh so electro! Ones to Watch in 2011: Cleo Sol

The talent just keeps getting younger and younger these days, doesn't it? While it all makes me feel really old, it keeps things the music fresh. Case in point, new rising talent Cleo Sol, who's debut promo track "LoveBass" is available for free on her Facebook page. At only 20 years old, the beautiful Cleo Sol already has racked up an impressive list of collaborations including Tinie Tempah

Hot Video Alert: Jessie J - Nobody's Perfect

UK phenom Jessie J has announced plans to release "Nobody's Perfect" as her official third single in the UK on May 23rd and I think it's a good choice. The song has a big chorus which really showcases Jessie J's vocal talent in it's best light. Previous singles "Do It Like A Dude" and "Price Tag" both featured little bursts of impressive vocals but on "Nobody's Perfect," we get a whole song

Spin Spin Satellite: Portland-based Electro Duo Van Go Lion Releases New EP

I can't believe that it's been almost a year since my last Van Go Lion post? Well, now is as good a time as any to bring them back into your sights for the release of their new Body Moves EP (available on iTunes now).

GAGA OOH LA LA! Lady Gaga Unveils 'Born This Way' Album Art and Releases New Single

By now you're all probably aware that both Lady Gaga's new single AND Born This Way album artwork have been released. Take a peek at the album artwork above and feel free to analyze away. Very literally, Gaga appears to be saying that she was born as a bad-ass motorcycle but we all know that's not actually what she's saying. There's meaning there (somewhere) and I look forward to hearing what

Vanessa Carlton To Release New Album June 21st

Woohoo! Two bits of Vanessa Carlton news to report. Firstly...Carlton has a new record label. Ones to Watch in 2011: Ella Chi

She looks like Adele, sounds like a cross between Lily Allen and Paloma Faith. What's not to love about Ella Chi? You seriously have to give this girl a listen, so check out the hot video for her second single, "Gobstopper," which came out in the UK this past Monday.

Ella's debut single, "Cuz He Needed Me" was featured on Radio 2 B Playlist last year for several weeks, followed by some

Openly Gay Country Singer Chely Wright Releases New Dance Remix

Admittedly, I'm not the BIGGEST fan of country music but I have my moments. Yeah, I've dabbled, and I'm not ashamed. Check out Canadian hottie (and Triple Threat) Blake McGrath's new video for "Stage Fright," the third single lifted off his debut album, Time To Move, which was released last November on Interscope Records. Hot Video Alert: The Ultra Girls - Girls Will Be Girls

Oh man. I needed a break. Between work getting crazy, pure exhaustion and a little tropical vacation, I just needed to reevaluate and take a little break. That being said, I'm back! I'm ready to blog again. I have a lot to get caught up on so bear with me.

First up...the video for "Girls Will Be Girls," the debut single from the Steve Anderson (Kylie Minogue, Westlife, Britney Spears)-produced
